It's not necessarily that he can't take punch, it's that Kobazev found a way to catch him fairly quickly. That speaks of deficiencies more profound than a shaky chin.

 

After the Grachev fight it was clear his chin isnt that good, people were underrating Kovalev

There were two punches, the one that was most damaging landed on his nose. Didn't you see the blood from Sillakh's nose when he got up?

 

I was surprised he didn't lasted longer. I really gave him a chance in this fight.

 

he fights very tall, keeps his hands away from his face at all times, and is quite simply always open to getting tagged. He doesn't slip punches conventionally--he just moves backwards. He's going to have to make some adjustments to his game if he wants to compete at top level. He's just too open to getting hit by an aggressive fighter.

 

Kovalev's defense if misleading, it's so underrated. Stevenson sure believes that Kovalev is a legit threat to him, so he will not fight him. Kovalev wants to fight Stevenson though. Ward is out of it, he has diarrhea..........

You could see his potential in round 1, he is a very good offensive fighter, but as has been pointed out his defense seems to lie largely in his movement.

I also expected him to last longer, but there was always the possibility of Kovalevs pressure putting him off his game and him going out early. Sillakh is usually able to dictate range and pace against the more limited fighters he has faced.

 

It was kinda funny Silka knocked out of the ring and trying to beat the count (even though it was over) with the judges trying to prop him up so he wouldnt fall on them.
