I was always under the impression that, like a sub standard fighter, a tomato can bleeds when its battered

I always thought it was like when rednecks shoot cans off a fence in films. Ie a 'tomato can' as in someone you can just knock over without it doing anything in return

To me that makes more sense than the blood theory
