Oscar Dela Hoya chased chickens during training. But mostly its a relic from the old school like log chopping.

Its bound to have some benefit, but im sure there are better things you could do instead.

It might be a relic but there aren't many conditioning drills better then log chopping.

It was either Men's Health or Maxim Magazine actually did a feature on a lot of the training techniques featured in the Rocky training montages. I don't think Chicken Chasing was still seen as an effective technique, there are better modern techniques around. Punching the sides of beef I think was also downplayed but the weight lifting he did was seen as good.

    :good

Testimony to the intnesity of this type of training- where wattage is concerned (a measurement of power) the highest measurable activity for wattage was..... wood chopping according to my text books.

  11. depends on the chicken sometimes you can chase a chicken and it will just squat for u to be picked up , if its a nervous chicken then it will do anything to get away you will have a chase on your hands , however its pointless doing it better off going for a run ...

I dont doubt its a brilliant conditioning drill.

The problem i have with wood chopping, is the terrible joint damage it causes.

If your going to use that sort of technique, a hammer to a tyre would be a far better method. Takes alot of the solid impact out of the movement.

True I suppose. There's a bit of give actually- have you ever chopped down a tree.

  14. i dont really think chopping would can cause much damage to your joints seriously i mean unless you already have joint problems

 funnily enough yes...and it was brutal.

I remember there was many a break taken, and a constant waterfall flowing from my head.
So i know exactly where you are coming from when you say its excellent conditioning.

I guess chopping logs would be more practical. But I still prefer the tyre method....or how about baseball bat on the heavybag?
