As UFC President Dana White recently made clear, and disclosed payouts for Saturday's UFC 162 show, it's the guys who win the fights, sell the tickets and get people talking that reap the biggest rewards. Top-five pay-per-view draw and middleweight champ Anderson Silva (33-4 MMA, 16-0 UFC), who recently inked a new 10-fight contract with the UFC, will bank a guaranteed $600,000 for fighting challenger Chris Weidman (9-0 MMA, 5-0 UFC), according to figures from the Nevada State Athletic Commission. Silva, 38, stands to earn an additional $200,000 by defending his title an 11th time, which would add to his UFC record. The 29-year-old Weidman, meanwhile, is guaranteed $24,000 and an additional $24,000 if he makes history by taking the belt. MMAjunkie.com

That's because Weidman chose not to renegotiate his contract before the fight. He's doing it after because he's confident of beating Anderson Silva, therefore, allowing him to secure a much better contract. That's pretty much the main reason he's making so much less. Some balls on that guy.
everybody knows dana hands out suitcases of cash to the guys in the locker room. the irs is on the case
is that also why Carwin made 40k against Lesnar? :huh These MMA salaries are a joke. And why all the secrecy about these lockeroom bonuses? :rofl
I hear the base pay in MMA is better than boxing, but when you get to the big boys. The top MMA fighters make pocket change compared to what the top boxers make.
The bottom pay is a disgrace. I agree they aren't owed anything for fighting but they certainly shouldn't be struggling in any form to cover training costs, travel costs, accommodation costs etc The reality is MMA is very close and alot of these guys write off costs by staying at each others houses, training in each others gyms. In addition to the bottom pay being awful, the basic for challenging for the title must be 6 figures. Some may never get that opportunity again. Anderson Silva hasn't only been dishing out defeats for years but that tends to mean you won't get a sub or ko bonus and he is single handidly standing in the way of you being a PPV attraction or main eventer in your division. Carwin got screwed when he fought Lesnar. I think a minimum of 50 to fight, 50 to win. If you lose, then you can resume your normal pay structure. If you win then you should assume a new pay structure as champ. Weidmann is being persecuted for rising rapidly and becoming the champion by his tenth fight. The mangitude of each fight needs to be graded accurately. If beating Maia, Munoz etc is worthy enough to get you a title shot then it should be worthy enough to get you a significant pay rise.
