we all know anderson silva wont fight machida but how would he fair against the man who many believe beat machida and looks to be back in his prime mauricio rua???
Really tough to say. Both good in Jiu jitsu. They both have great Muay Thai. Both great in the clinch. Silva's knees vs Shogun's kicks. I'd give the edge in countering to The Spider. Could be a chess match. To tough to call. Definately a dream fight. 50/50.
This is the one rare occassion where I cant make a prediction. I think Shogun's pressure and agressive style could cause serious problems for Silva and Silva wouldnt be able to hurt Shogun as easily as he has other fighters as Shogun has a granite chin. Shogun doesnt have bad defense but he leaves some openings that Silva could and likely would counter on both guys have great clinch games I doubt either could really get much going on there. I would favor Shogun now that im thinking of it because IMO if he wants to he can take this fight to the ground he has underatted takedowns and his GNP even in the US rules is still vicious ask Overeem. Dont know but ill lean towards Shogun IMO he is back to his 05-07 form and is the best 205er in the world agian.
I would LOVE to see this fight!! What a match-up!!! Despite being a Machida fan, I thought Shogun won their fight and at the final bell I was hoping (Shogun) would receive the decision, then this fight would have been "On"!! A peak form Shogun is a serious challenge for anyone, but Anderson is a better striker than Machida and whilst I do agree that this fight does have some potential to be a "Chess match", I believe it would be an exciting bout! Anderson would (Obviously) be more aggressive than Machida!!! As a result he should be able to "Counter" Shogun far more effectively than Lyoto did! I believe that an aggressive Shogun (Who can fight "On the back foot" but who invariably "Abandons" such a strategy during a bout) would present Silva with the opportunities that he requires to win this fight. Shogun looked fantastic in his fight with Machida. But as you guys know, in mma, more than any other combat sport, styles truly do make fights and whilst it is entirely possible that Shogun (And his "Style") may well have Machida's "Number" I do not believe that he would be as successful against Silva, who I believe defeats Shogun by late tko.
:good I would love to see all of those fights!! Along with Shogun vs Gegard Mousasi Or Anderson Silva vs Mousasi!!! Let's hope we see at least one of these "Dream" match-ups within the next 12 months!!
Shogun looked great in his last fight against Machida but I still think Anderson wins. Anderson seems to have more power in his punches and he is crisper. Shogun may have an advantage on the ground except it is really hard to stay on top of Anderson without just getting kicked off...
I'd need to see another world class performance from Shogun. Silva is technically better, I see a lot more ways of him winning. The only thing that makes me think that Shogun could win is Shogun vs Overeem (the Pride 33 one, was that one or two?); get some sort of takedown (not easy) and huge ground and pound (also not easy). Maybe if Shogun could get a Thai clinch, but I don't know if he can or could do enough with it. Silva could finally "evade" his way to losing a decision I guess; that would be one of the best things that could come out of this fight. There is a bit of real dislike between the two if I remember correctly, the whole Chute Boxe politics thing.
Yes Pride 33 was the rematch where he punches right through Overeem's guard and knocked him out cold.
