Silva's got double vision

BRILLIANT Brazilian Anderson Silva is aiming to make UFC history by becoming the first fighter to hold two world titles at the same time.

He begins his quest in Las Vegas on Saturday when he tackles James Irvin in a non-title light-heavyweight contest.

Silva moves up from the 185lb middleweight division that he has dominated with six straight wins on his way to lifting the world crown.

He is being allowed to keep that title as he joins the 205lb ranks, where he is hoping to start with a victory in that division.

The versatile Silva would then drop back down to his customary weight and defend his middle-weight crown in the autumn.

Meanwhile, he will use the Irvin fight as a yardstick to assess his chances of mounting a bid to relieve Forrest Griffin of the light-heavy belt.

Silva said: “I am called the best fighter in the world, which is an honour, but I feel I am still not the finished article.

“I feel I can be the best fighter in the world, maybe the best fighter in all of MMA.”

His motivation will be to make history by adding the light-heavy belt to his middleweight title, leaving him the proud owner of two of the UFC’s five world titles. But he won’t have things all his own way against Irvin, who destroyed Houston Alexander in just eight seconds in April – the fastest KO in UFC history.

Irvin’s certainly in the mood to topple Silva and said: “I won’t back down for a second from him. That doesn’t mean I will go crazy – he’s the best fighter in the world for a reason and I respect that.

“I won’t go in there with the attitude ‘I am a former heavyweight and he’s just a middle-weight’ and expect his punches not to hurt or for him not to be strong in the clinch.

“I expect him to be very strong but, after the first round, I think he’ll know I am the bigger man and bigger puncher.

“I don’t think he has the kind of KO power I have.

“He hurts you and I am expecting to get hurt here, but he can’t take me out with one shot like I can with him.

“I just don’t see myself losing. I’m expecting to take a lot of damage.

“I’m expecting to eat a lot of his shots, but I’ve sparred and trained with guys who hit a lot harder than he hits.

“I’d rather take three or four of his punches than fight someone like Quinton Jackson, who will just knock you out with either hand with the first shot he lands.

“He won’t get me in that Thai clinch and work me over, I am ready for it.

“One thing is certain – I won’t be frightened of him.”

PREDICTION: Irvin will be no pushover but I’m taking Silva to wear him down and get his light-heavy career off to a winning start – on points.

I can't wait for the Spider to get his journey at 205 going, them bums are not gonna know what's hit them :rofl , i'm sure he'll take care of Irvin with no problems at all and then i hope he get's a shot at Griffin for the title!!.. Silva will destroy that club fighter .

Somehow I have a feeling that Irving is gona catch Silva with a pinpoint punch KO either late 1st or early second...
