Fighters with similar styles? Estrada is very Marquez like with his intricate footwork and timing. Funnily I see similarities with Emmanuel Rodriguez and Estrada. Historically Floyd was clearly influenced by James Toney and Holmes by Ali. Any that spring to mind with old and current fighters?
Floyd got the shoulder roll from Toney, but fighters like George Benton used the shoulder roll long before Toney did and Floyd also got the pull counter from Ali but I can`t see anything that he took from Holmes in his style, Holmes threw much more jabs per fight than Floyd did apart from Floyd`s jab to the body which was a favourite of his, he threw a number of jabs at De La Hoya and used the jab more in the Pac fight than any of his other fights, but I really can`t see any other similarity between Floyd and Holmes, great thread though, in my opinion.
I feel GGG is very much like a modern version of JCC Sr, in the way that is is an amazing pressure fighter with a great chin and a fantastic defense, very similar.
I cant believe not one of you have said "Amir Khan and Sugar Ray Leonard". The hand speed is dazzling, the skills are ridiculous.. Damn, it's just another example of you all ignoring King Khan. Yeah that's right, I told you all, I'm a fully fledged member of the "King Khan Club" now. Errr I was going to spell the word "Club" with a K but thought the initials wouldn't sit well with some people, I might get a ban and thought better of it
I meant Holmes was influenced by Ali, not Floyd bro. Yeah definitely Benton is the originator of the shoulder roll but I think Floyd took more influence from Toney probably due to the fact that Toney is more contempary.
Khan would have lasted two round vs Thomas Hearns and Duran, he can`t fight in the pocket the way Ray did and he doesn`t have a chin that could take some of the punches Ray took from Duran and Hearns, Sugar would have knocked Khan out.
Archie Moore used the shoulder roll before Benton, although I think you can find footage of guys using the technique by Sam Langford's time or before. A quick search turns up guys here in the classic section talking about bare knuckle fighters using it.
Blasphemer, how dare you, I'm disappointed and disgusted. This content is protected Stone Him, Stone Him.
Sorry I meant one of the originators to make it popular, I’m sure locche used it too and some other European fighter.
