They both held the title for seven calender years Holmes 78-85,Hagler 80-87 They both lost their titles to 1976 Olympic gold medalist They both lost their titles to boxers having their first fight at the division They both had to follow champions generally regarded as the greatest in their divison They both have six letters in their last name and won their titles against fighters with six letters in their last name They both had to come up the hard way and were very bitter about losing their championship They both had their first fight in 1973
They were both trained in the esoteric dark arts by a renegade splinter sect of Jesuit monks. Probably just co-incidence though.
I'd go with fast defensive Boxer types: Kid Chocolate - certainly has the style and boxing ability, may not be strong/big enough Pep - see above Laguna - not the greatest FW or LW, but big at LW and the right style Guzman - as big and strong as Duran, has the speed and defense to give Duran allot of problems outside, probably not the workrate but aph Marquez - Marquez is great against come forward boxers, not as defensively as good as many others but would compete with Duran at any punching range even if he comes off second best Marcel rematch - this was a very competitive fight with a premature stoppage, deserves a mention I'm sure everyone would pick Duran but they are all competitive tricky fights for Duran if he doesn't just work through his opponent. And: Alexis Arguello - height/reach, jab and technical skills, no easy fight for Duran Hamed - punchers chance? Possibly not but at his best when an opponent looks to exchange. Too small though
