Brown was an exciting fighter who I grew up watching. But Cotto was more tested against better opposition, did better at the higher weights, had more success in old age, etc.. I'm thinking he pulls this one off. Not exactly sure as to the outcome though.

Do you think Cotto beat better WW opposition than Brown Magoo?

Blocker, Trice and a few others were good fighters. And in truth welterweight was Brown's backyard. Cotto beat an older Mosley, Judah, Clottey, Quintana, etc. Might depend on your opinion of the two lists, but yeah. I think Miguel probably takes the slight edge there. Brown had a lot of defenses against guys who weren't terribly well established.

I guess I like Cotto, but a lot depends on which version of Brown shows up. He looked deflated in the McGirt fight, and spoke later of having to lose something like 30 pounds for that fight, leaving him a zombie. Familiar tale we all know, but who knows. If it's the guy who tore up Tyrone Trice twice (say that a bunch of times fast) then this is even money. Cotto is more disciplined on the whole, and Brown loves a slugfest. This plays into Cotto's hands a bit.

Brown hits hard enough that I'm not confident in picking a winner. And he beat Terry Norris who's no slouch. He beat some other guys too. Trice (the first one is a great fight), Blocker, Vaca. But when he was outboxed he was really outboxed.

If Cotto takes it it will look a lot like Foreman-Morrison.

I just saw the first Trice fight for the first time and it's a great, great fight. You think Brown should have been DQ'd?

He really could have been because he was pretty rough in there. But I think the punch on the floor ( I went back and rewatched it) was more like Marciano on Walcott than Jones on Griffin. It was a punch (and he should've lost another point at the least) but it didn't have enough on it to make me think it would be dq worthy.

 it was ****ing mad he just punched him right in the face while he was literally lying on the ground.

Disagree on Marciano-Walcott. It was pointed out to me by Unforgiven, and he's quite right: Walcott wasn't down for that shot. There might have been a referee's instruction to stop, but he didn't actually hit a guy who was down. Just a guy who was unconscious

I'm not saying he defo should have been thrown out but I think points of at a minimum and i think second, he should have got time to recover after the count. He was just looking round like "wtf?" and then Brown literally comes steaming in like a lunatic

It wasn't funny really, I don't like seeing that.

In the moment Walcott wasn't down but he was held up by the ropes. But fair point.

Anyway you could've given Trice 5 minutes and that would've been a fair call. I don't think he could win but he might have mustered up enough to survive.

Brown was a very good fighter a bit up and down when he was hot I think he would have beaten cotto .I don't think cotto could have kept brown off him.

He was definitely exciting to watch.. Good puncher too. My favorite brown performance was when he moved up to hammer Norris.. Epic

I think Simon Brown could put some serious hurt on Cotto if Miguel goes forward...but if Cotto goes into his boxing version of 'keep away, stay away', I think he would take a decision.

Brown by late stoppage in a hard fight.
