But Lopez hit harder and his chin was much better. However i think Simon was the better boxer, actually Lopez could box a little but that wasnt him The one big advantage Brown has over him is activity and there is a good possibility he would outwork Lopez. Browns best weight was Welter thats when he was in his prime. This is almost 50/50 i can see a motivated Lopez knocking out an aggressive Brown who might play into Maestrito hands if thats the case i can see Lopez knocking out brown in the mid rounds. However if Brown fights a smart fight and doesnt intiate a brawl i can see him winning (however thats a big if) or if Lopez comes in unmotivated like against James Page (a good possibility) Brown will cruise to a decision. If the Lopez that blew out a prime yori boy shows up Lopez knocks him out. Only thing i know for sure is Brown wouldnt ko him i know Brown was a big puncher, but Lopez has one of the best chins i have ever seen.
I think your selling Brown a bit short bro. Esp his power... I dunno if Lopez was a bigger puncher. Brown could CRACK like a sonuvabitch! Just look at how he destroyed the usually durable Jorge Vaca. Simon Brown is pretty damn underrated nowadays.
Im not selling Brown short at all, i think your selling Lopez short and Big time!! No one has ever repeatdley hurt Yori Boy the way Lopez did, check that fight out he hurt Yori with every punch he threw , Trinidad shots didnt even have the same effect. Quartey was very durable and same thing no one ever Quartey the way Lopez did not Oscar not nobody. One other thing James Page,Quartey,Yori Boy,Aaron Davis all laid there best shots on Lopez and he walked thru them like nothing. Vaca was solid in his prime but he could be kod, Brown wasnt the first to do it. When it comes to Simon Brown and especially Jose L Lopez i can honestly say not too many have seen more of them than yours truly. Ive seen Brown dropped or hurt by less punchers than Lopez. I think wear Brown gets sold short is his boxing ability, most people label him as just a bomber which he loved to do but he had some good boxing ability.
Pretty much agree with anarci, this is more or less a 50/50 fight. Brown would win more often than not because of Lopez's lack of concern for the sport, but at their best it could go either way, and maybe I'd lean towards Lopez slightly.
Brown was durable enough at welterweight. He got cracked by Pettway at junior middle but besides that his chin was sturdy. I think Brown wins a decision. Lopez was tough, and he fought well against guys that brought the fight to him, but I think Brown beats him with boxing.
