Brown was a damn good fighter. Honeyghan was a real force but it didn’t last long and when he crashed he crashed hard. Prime for prime I just think Brown was too well rounded and tough to lose this. I see him stopping Lloyd late after a terrific all action fight. Great match up mate!
Lloyd Honeygahn was a very good fighter on the night of Sept 21 1986, shocking a very talented World Welterweight Champion Donald Curry, and stopping him to become the new champion. He did crash from stardom very fast, he was an aggressive counter puncher and figured to be champion for a long time. He had a win over Maurice Blocker in April 1987, then came the loss to Jorge Vaca. I think Simon Brown, a much tougher fighter would stop Lloyd in round 8, Honeyghan is too inconsistent, look what happened to him against Marlon Starling and Mark Breland.
The pre Vaca Honeyghan probably gets the job done if Brown challenged him in the first year of his reign post Curry, or indeed if he met him in an elimination in 1986. Brown looked a prospect in 85-87, but seemed to lack the confidence he gained post TriceI. After that, he would have been just as impressive beating Honeyghan, as Messrs Starling and Breland were.
