I remember a poster of him on the wall of my old boxing gym. How good was he, and how would he do in todays welterweight division.

Im gonna watch the tyrone trice fight now! :thumbsup

He was good. He may have been the best Welterweight in the world for a short period in 1990-91. He unified the title with a ko of his buddy Maurice Blocker. His drawback was a pretty mediocre defense. His fight with Trice was exciting but to be honest Tyrone Trice was not an elite fighter. Brown fought some weak competiton when he held the IBF title but the win over Blocker was impressive.

He was a good skilled, hard-hitting boxer-puncher early in his career and through the first half of his reign, but seemed to end up fancying himself as a much harder puncher than he really was.

Skills eroded fairly quickly and he became more of a march forward and wear you down type of fighter that just tried to punch holes in his opposition. This lead to wars with Trice and struggling technically with Blocker and eventually being schooled by Buddy McGirt.

He was having some issues making weight by that point, but the way his style had gone, he was looking vulnerable to something like that tbh.

brief resurgence exposing Norris' glass chin, but he was a pretty ordinary fighter post-McGirt domination.

Prime Brown would be the best welter in the world right now.

I loved his fight with Norris. Terry was overconfident and Simon reminded him just how good he was. Brown showed a good pocket defense in that fight. He was rolling and slipping really well.

Brown really wised up and added some science to his aggression after he lost to Starling. That was a case where a close loss early in a career turned out to be a benefit, because Brown got good experience and tightened up his game.
