Sunday in Umtata, South Africa. IBO straw belt on the line, 3rd defense of Khonco. Both guys have on the surface unspectacular records (although not uncommonly so for world class operators in the 105lb through super fly range, where divisions are think populated and talent is mostly front-loaded so that everybody is challenged early & often in a way heavier fighters typically don't have to worry about until they are twenty pro bouts deep) and neither has a signature victory, but they arguably deserve to have wins and we're unlucky to not get the nods over prime Hekkie Budler (for Khonco, in his first stab at the IBO minimumweight title which he subsequently grabbed upon Budler vacating) and Thammanoon Niyomtrong aka Knockout CP Freshmart (Landero) respectively, so they're legit. Given their styles this should be a GREAT fight in an oft-overlooked weight class between underrated warriors. Zolani Tete's brother Makazole is on the undercard. He is on the comeback trail after being kayoed by a then little known Jonas Sultan a year and a half ago. @Boxing Prospect do you know if there is any snowball's chance in hell of us getting the rare bit of international live access to a South African show here?
I can never find South African streams so wouldn't look at me for one Just 1 thing though, Landero's win over Saludar surely has to go down as a signature victory given what Vic has done since
How was Yamanaka vs. Saludar, by the way? I read the result last weekend but haven't really had a chance to investigate any further.
Pretty decent fight. Certainly worth a watch. Would argue Konishi vs Silvestre was better but two solid fights
Khonco Pinoy's almost never get a decision in South Africa and Landero hasn't got the power to take him out
South Africa is almost Australian levels when it comes to hometown fighters getting the nod on the cards. And I really doubt we’ll ever get a video of the fight lol. I want Africa to advance in the sport of boxing but the unavailability of a means of watching their fights makes me wish nothing was ever staged there lol
