Simple Poll JOE FRAZER v ROCKY MARCIANO!

frazier wears him down with a mid rounds KO. frazier loved guys who came at him and he'd bob and weave his way towards a brutal win where takes heavy, heavy damage himself

 

Gotta go with Marciano here..... actually, Frazier may well win, but i like Marciano's double fisted attack and better durability to be the deciding factor here, in a grueling war.

No. Frazier liked guys that were tall, jabbed, and moved so he could corner and unleash on them. Guys like Jimmy Ellis. He only liked the telephone both fights when it happened to be out of a bad plan against fighters like Quarry. Bonavena was a tough match/fight for him. Bonavena was no Rocky.

 

Everytime I analyze this matchup that's about where it ends up. Marciano's durability and two fisted attack are the edge. Frazier has to be on top of his game using angles and be completely polished defensively. However, I can see him open for a hook/uppercut from Marciano. Style wise I favor Marciano. He would welcome with open arms any smother style Frazier brings and would bomb away at mid-range much better than Frazier could I think. The only time Frazier has a stamina disadvantage. As far as I'm concerned anyone who says otherwise is crazy... I can bob and weave for hours on end but can't throw thousands of punches while getting hit and busted in a big time fight.

 

i disagree: quarry was exactly who i was thinking of; a tremendous fighter who was still twice knocked out. bonavena was an anamoly but one who was still beating twice. jimmy ellis was destroyed but for the first few rounds outboxed frazier; he hated movers.

i feel rocky is light years ahead of these fighters to be sure but that same style, joe had a lot of success with. and for me, the size difference in this fight would matter. rocky was incredibly strong for his size BUT a prime, focused in shape frazier would have just a little too much for him in my opinion.

 

hell of a fight but joe will take it.. only thing joe has to be carefull of are the early rounds since he needed some time to start smokin. in heart and stamina both guys are eachothers equals but for the rest the advantage is at joe's side.

 

I think Marciano has the edge in chin and power.

 

Both men against tough strong crowders. I think Marciano handled himself in the phone booth better, Bonavena's brawling gave Frazier considerable trouble as well.

No, Quarry was stopped on cuts in both instances, not knocked out. He overwhelmed Frazier in the early rounds, especially in the first when his workrate was the highest, before gassing and getting injured. Conditioning, lack of punching power, and injuries were Quarry's biggest drawbacks, something Marciano had to spare.

 

true, quarry had his drawbacks but he was still significantly better than most of rocky's opposition. i think part of it is that marciano showed his flaws against "lesser" competition. both are great fighters and maybe rocky would win because he was more durable. i just see it getting stopped on cuts in frazier's favour. to each his own but style wise, i think the advantage is to smokin joe.

 

:huh Quarry essentially is a counter-puncher. He was fighting Frazier off the ropes or with Frazier on the ropes. That telephone poll style was incredibly terrible for Quarry and his style. EVEN Rocky Marciano commented on this!

So Frazier did better against Chuvalo and Bonavena than he did against Ellis, Foster, and Mathis?

 

And stamina... if people think Marciano has an edge in zero departments, I would think Joe would smoke him out of there too.

People forget how dominating Marciano was in his prime outside of that first Walcott fight, which he won by a 1 punch KO and a fight in which he was blind for 3-4 rounds.

Walcott, Charles, LaStarza, Moore? Significantly better? Get real... Walcott even then was better than Quarry. An old Joe Louis is arguably not significantly inferior to Quarry. Rocky's competition often gets discredited. Outside of Ali, Frazier's win resume isn't superior in my eyes... in fact it's probably the opposite.

 

oh quarry, barring the first round, did not fight a smart kind of fight. but i see it going similarly with rocky is what i'm thinking. i see, and i may be wrong, marciano coming at frazier from the first bell, fighting in close and hitting him with hooks and forearms. if it doesn't work early, i feel frazier will build steam and get to him

i personally think frazier did much better against chuvalo than he did against ellis. ellis was winning the first three rounds. again oscar is a strange one and for some reason may always trouble joe. foster was WAY too small and physically weak to be compared to most. mathis did trouble frazier at times certainly.

i think this comes down to a difference in how we think rocky will fight. frazier had one style, one rhythm and i think that once he gets into that style, that rhythm, NO ONE beats him. i feel marciano, unless he bombs him out of there, will let that happen.
