Simple Question: how many of the first 10 did Regis win?

The compubox figures don’t always tell the story of a fight. I thought Taylor was effectively using his size and strength to just edge the close rounds with the ring generalship and effective aggression. It was a very close fight in which I said beforehand that Prograis would win. I would have had no problem with a 7-5 either way or a draw but it was no robbery at all. Any scorecard with 8-4 or more is very skewed imo.

Len the fight was excellent. Both boxers were excellent. I'm usually a big fan of punch stats but it doesn't tell everything.

Taylor won the majority of the middle rounds.

The fight had a comparison to Gatti - Ward 1 in the sense where it didn't really matter who got the win, both guys were excellent.

 

It is as close to an objective analysis as we have. I had the beeb's audio coverage on in the background and throughout they were going mental for any Taylor punch landed, while either not reporting or keeping Prograis' better work on the down low. I was not that fussed who won, but I like to see the right result. On this occasion, it is in doubt.

I scored the fight a draw mate - always state it as I see it.

Subjectively then, Prograis jabbed his head off, then shared the power throughout. Objectively, that is backed up by the man in Compubox pressing the button every time a punch lands. If we are disputing those punches then we are in fantasy land.

 

Compubox is two people with laptops counting punches. It’s just as susceptible to human error as three people with a pencil and card scoring it round by round.

It’s an objective but flawed measurement of a single aspect of boxing scoring. It treats every single non-jab as equal, and ignores the other scoring criteria outside of number of punches landed. It’s not amateur boxing, and pros are fighting to the criteria set in the rules. If it was about number of scoring punches, most fights would look like 1990s amateur bouts, as fighters would play to that scoring criteria.

Taylor-Prograis was a close fight that could have gone either way. Close fights aren’t robberies. The only controversy is that one of the cards was very iffy.

 

Conclusion: The boxing scoring format is almost fatally flawed.

Please explain the workings of Compubox in detail. Is it just 2 guys with laptops? Are you sure? Do you know the model of those laptops or are you just guessing? I will guess that you are guessing.

 

Thought taylor won it fair and square tbh. Obviously a close fight but taylor was too big and fit for him in the end. Prograis a very good fighter tho. Had better flashier skills than taylor. But taylor out worked/manned him. Not sure compubox really tells the story of a fight tbh.

One thing where the americans are slightly behind the brits are in the battle of the scales imo. The brits are great at boiling guys down to make weight before balloning up for fight night. That for me won taylor the fight. The downside is it pretty much ends there careers at the top level earlier but allows them to get wins like last night against guys that would probably beat them otherwise. The americans concentrate more on skill...but it does struggle against guys that are heavier and the stamina of the brits at times.

Never been a massive fan of mcguigan...but he proved me wrong with taylor....got the perfect balance of stamina, size and skill. Managed to keep his stamina while keeping him at weight...so far anyway.
