They should start stripping champions. Every other year you need to either fight a) mandatory callenger or b) fight another champion for a unification. If you don't do either, then you lose your belt. End of discussion.

Also, you cannot get a top 10 ranking unless you beat someone within the top 10. No more fighting a bunch of tomato cans, journeymen, washed up ex champs, etc fo sneak your way into the rankings. Ranked fighters must also be active fighting 2x a year (unless they have a legitimate injury) or they get dropped 5 spots in the rankings.

If every sanctioning body did this, you'd see a lot of fighters get their act together. Of course this is overly optimistic and we know the sanctioning bodies/promoters are greedy and can benefit from ducking, but one can hope.

Unless your name is Canelo. At which point he is unstrippable.

Sadly, if you are a cash cow the rules are made to accommodate you and l don't see that changing anytime soon, perhaps ever.

Well with this system you'd be nipping it in the bud early. Stop the delusional divas from becoming divas in the first place. If you get stripped for ducking, that will be the ultimate shakey and an embarrassment. No exceptions. As champion you either need to be fighting ranked opponents or unifying.

Unfortunately they always seem to make exceptions and I can't see that stopping because of the amount of money involved.

This is IMO perfectly sound common sense logic like: "you can't be a champion unless you beat a champion".

I agree but they should fight at least twice a year. And one of them being a mandatory.

    Or they get stripped.

Best case the Saudis buy up all 4 organizations and combine them into one. Make one nice shiny belt made out of gold and blood diamonds.

A better way is for fans to not pay for or watch meaningless fights. Hit them where it hurts, the pocket book. Stop paying filet mignon prices for bologna.

One mandatory per year, which includes for each belt with the exception of unification fights which can be made if done in a timely manner.

What I have found is that fans can be just as annoying as the sanctioning bodies. They will actually justify ducking and will gladly pay to see champions fight bums for entertainment. It's very difficult to get fans mad enough to stop supporting a boxer unless the boxer just does something egregious enough to make the entire boxing community mad (like Fury's recent antics, and even then people will still pay to see him fight).

And Jose Sulaiman wept and begged him to take it back.

I agree with you but the most ironic and funniest thing about this is that they're all technically non-profit organizations. It's really crazy.

This is a great idea................in theory, I'd even go so far as saying every year, not every other year you should be fighting a mandatory or another titlist..............It would never work though.

the fans that will get mad enough to abandon a fighter have mostly abandoned the whole sport, as the sport deserves.

I'd be happy to see this! If you are in the top ten, you should ONLY fight other top ten guys. But I'd add, if one wants a 'stay busy' fight against a lesser opponents, that would be OK. So long as they fight two other top ten opponents within the time frame.
