Thats what I like about him, not only can he be relentless pressure fighter on the front foot when you back up and give him a momentum, but he can also punch with you and counter to a degree, even when in the center of the ring, even though he has a reach disadvantage against most. I remember in the Truscott rematch how Truscott was trying to keep him in the center, throwing more combos in an effort to keep him on the defense, but he (Simpson) still found spots to punch with Truscott and land.

I agree it wasn't the greatest of performances even taking into account the hand, but I think he showed flashes especially at the start of the fight why ge Is rated. But in fairness he didn't show it consistently enough against a man who IMO beat smith!
Smith does look to ge quite a sharp and clean puncher, but much improvement is needed on the inside as his career progresses.
What my point is though is it was a quality effort against a more experienced opponent. As regards world honours, time will tell :good

He did try to use his advantages early, and he did'nt let the occasion get to him so yeah, credit to him for that.

Maybe im a little harsh on him, as I have a appreciation for Simpson.

Tbf gooners I like simpson too. I was surprised a little bit with the victory over Lindsay, but I think the next year could be great in the fw division

I was surprised to, I thought Lindsay would definitely get hit, as he doesn't use that much movement, and whilst being a good/decent counter puncher, he isn't particularly illusive imo, although I just thought he might be slightly above Simpson in levels, I still think he might be, just that he might not of fought the right fight, although thats not a knock on Simpson, he beat what was infront of him and played a part in why Lindsay fought the fight he did.

In all fairness gooners all you can do is beat the guy in front of you, regardless of the fact that the other guy might beat you another 9 times out of ten! I think we are fortunate to have a group of guys who can be competitive with each other. I like Simpson because he is as tough as they come seems to have great reserves of energy, really digs things out. Defeats haven't put him off, true warrior!

    Agree. :thumbsup

At the end of the day, Simpson got out of his performance what he put in, so he deserves all the credit in the world, I loved that fight to, was a c-racker.

Lol, your censored on this site from using the term c,racker Lol

I thought Simpson did very well against Lindsay. As much as I think the rematch will be good I'd like to see Lindsay see Smith and also Simpson in a rematch with smith too.
Also Lindsay should have a tune up fight before getting back in the ring with Simpson. Lindsay has paid a price for inactivity.

To be fair to John Simpson mate he wae illusive enough to come out of 12 rounds with Stephen & 12 rounds with Martin with hardly a mark on him!:good

Hey Billy, I was referring to Lindsay not being that illusive, although I do agree with you, Simpson does not really take much punishment even when in these type of fights, where as another fight could conceivably have swelled eyes or cuts etc, only Simpson seems to pick the best of the shots off on his guard.

PS, I think you're doing a really good job with Simpson and Burns.:thumbsup

Both good domestic pro fighters .... i would though marginally fancy Lindsay in the rematch ...Lindsay looked a bit raw in there as unbeaten fighters can ... think next time up he will box alot more instead of looking for the big un ...

Simpsons a really good boxer but i just wonder if there are any other irons to his game ... i could see Lindsay this time box and move for a points decision ...

Either way a great fight and looking fwd to the rematch ...

I think people are being harsh to smith on this thread i thought the 1st three rounds were definitely Smith rounds. I thought smith showed inexperience and was easily bullied on the inside as Simpson worked him over with uppercuts. Smith also wobbled Simpson a few times something you don't see many fighters doing.

On a side note i am a massive fan of Simpson he is the type of pro that everyone should root for does things the hard way and i hope he gets what he deserves out of this game
