Lindsay is a tough fight too mate but he doesn't set a pace like Simpson and he can quite easily be outboxed, Swifty and Simpson I personally feel were 1 & 2 respectively in Britian, Lindsay is a serious puncher so does bring something different to the table however I just feel swifty will nulify that by using his speed and boxing skills against Lindsay. I also would like to say that I hope John Simpson carries on in the sport cos he has so much left to give and it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest to see him win a European Title!!
Close fight could have gone either way, thought Simpson edged it and he deserves a close one but there you go, thats boxing and thats sport. Did not enjoy this fight at all, could not believe it when Jim Watt said before hand that Simpson is never in a bad fight. I think people confuse a tough hard fought grueling contest with entertainment tbh, reminded me of the Simpson Appleby fight, was hard on the boxers but even harder to watch. I have no desire to see a rematch although there should probably be one. I would be presently surprised if any of the British crop of Featherweights win a EBU title let alone a geniune world strap however they are all at about the same level so plenty of fights worth making - I just hope I am otherwise busy when they are on TV.
Tony, did you get a chance to catch young Liam Smith in action. OK it might have ended in a draw but it was a hell of a fight and had most folks on there feet. Well done to the lad.
could of gone either way,i thought smith just nicked it,wouldent of been suprised if simpson got it though. simpson dident fight like a champion,it was a real **** fight by both men, both holding and both being a bit dirty, smith needs to go back to the gym, watch the fight back, and learn how to fight to the body,i thought he could of stopped simpson if he hit the body, but he looked lost on the inside, well,to be honest, they both did:huh:thumbsup
Agree. Just scored the fight myself, it was not robbery, but it was a bad decision, Simpson won clearly imo, which is evident by the amount of posters in this thread. My card... Smith Smith Simpson Simpson Smith close Simpson Simpson Simpson Simpson (very close, Simpson may have stole it) Smith Simpson Simpson Simpson's lead right, his inside uppercuts, his body work in the clinches are what won him the fight imo. Early on Smith had success from range but in the mid part of the fight he started falling inside and got outfought on the inside, he came back in round 10 and took it back to long range, but Simpson closed it out and won the last round, overall Smith fought a negative fight, too much holding and spoiling. Hard to tell who does more holding out of Smith and his elder brother, they are both awful to watch imo.
I thought Smith won live but apparently I'm in the minority. I would watch it again but it was really **** and didn't live up to expectations. Scrappy, scrappy affair. Smith picked up his brothers habits of not being able to fight inside and holding. If he had even anywhere close to respectable infighting ability he'd have easily beaten Simpson, he was making him look silly early on from range but against a guy like Simpson you have to be able to either maintain that movement or match him toe to toe later on and Smith did neither to make the fight clear.
I thought smith won the first four rounds imo when smith boxed at a range where clear and easy to score for smith after that it gets scrappy with the holding and the rounds become harder to score but if you give smith the first 4 and split the rest you get a comprehensice points decision for smith I don't advocate this but imo definitely doesn't make the scorecards outrageous
