Haye keeps going on about his retirement which is not far away. what sense (aside form money did fighting Audley make?) Does it just not reinforce the claim that Haye couldn't give a toss about legacy, resume, fighting big names, but just bankrolling as much money as he can. Well congrats cos he's managed to do just that. The millions he's made and the fame he has found, he's set up for the rest of his life, whatever he does. In a weird way, I gotta give it to him, as he's done from just 3 or 4 fights, fighting once or twice a year, has set himself up nicely. Smart, very smart.

But it just leaves a bitter taste in the mouth, after he gave us the I'm here to clean up the heavyweight division crap. But we can't blame, Haye, we all fell for it, so I guess we're the stupid ones. Haye was just smart and if he never fights again post October and if he never gets a Klit in his last fight, he can sail off in to the sunset and be happy with what he's achieved.

As for the rest of us who boarded that train, the journey is coming to come to an end in the most anti climatic way.

Back to the old, fat, slow heavyweights that we all know and love. Cheers Dave. :patsch

Financial sense. I guess the British public wanted it too. The fight generated massive PPV numbers, so there is logic behind it.

Well, I suppose it's how serious you take his insinuations that he will be retiring this year - and what he does up until this time. Personally, I still hold some hope that a Klitschko fight can be made. I don't think either side will want to let the fight go, particularly Haye as if he does retire, it may be on a sour note. The Harrison fight was a joke, but to be honest, if you fell for it then you only have yourself to blame. Most people knew that Harrison would freeze and Haye would walk through him. That fight was in my opinion a marking time, money collecting excersize until he could get a Klitschko. For Haye, there was a lot of money to be made from the Harrison fight.

Now that Wlad has Chisora and appears to be fighting Adamek after, I'd love to see him fight Vitali, which would be a better fight than stalemate he may face with Wlad. If he does retire this year then he basically has maybe one or at the most two more fights left. I reckon he'll hold out for a Klitschko and then stay on if he wins. Personally, I don't have a massive problem with him calling it quits this or next year even though I'd like him to fight on. If he wants to get out of the sport with his senses in tact and a sack load of money then so be it. He's probably seen too many punch drunk boxers with their noses spread across their face trying to cling on to former glories.

It's just that hardcore fans would have loved to have seen him in a fight with the likes of Adamek, Arreola, Povetkin, hell even Chambers, Kevin Johnson, someone who would provide a test. The problem with those names, he wouldnt have made the money he did with Audley. Boxing is a numbers game. The sooner we realize that, the better.

After grabbing everyone's attention the casual fan would have been happy to see him fight anyone. They were mislead into believing this was a proper fight (the battle of Britain ) when it was barely an exhibition against a shot fighter who was never good in the first place

Also, how many people do you think watched Haye beat Ruiz then said 'right now he should fight Audley Harrison'? Probably no one. The possibility of a Harrison fight was repeatedly leaked to the media by the Haye/Harrison camps to introduce the idea of them fighting. This wasn't a fight people wanted to see, just a fight they accepted

Made no sense at all in the grand scheme of things, was an easy payday and a guaranteed seller for the British public.

Either that or Haye actually gets on fine with Harrison behind closed doors and decided to give him a last big payout :huh

Well I guess there were many people wanting to see Audley get knocked out. Haye knew this of course and ended up being the man to do that. Easy money and a fight which could be marketed on many levels.

But again, did NOTHING for legacy, so it puts Haye's outlandish claims of doing something at heavyweight in perspective.

£'s and £'s only was the reason for that fight from Hayes perspective. Dont let anyone tell you different.

He's done nothing and is about to retire with the legacy of a very poor man's Ingemar Johansson
