All I know is according to an ESPN article from 2-3 months back, it was reported that HBO had shot down the idea. I am not sure it makes sense either. But Steve Kim @ maxboxing and others are adamant that networks dont like to offer dates to promoters/fighters who are in lawsuits with each other. Which makes sense, because there is an abnormally high risk in such a case of programming disruption or even the network getting drawn into the lawsuit. I dont know that to be the case, but it does make sense. Without network money, I dont see Goossen able to meet contract financial requirements. I suppose hypothetically HBO could offer the date to K2, and K2 could put on the event - but that would make Ward the B-side and I dont see Goossen or Ward going for that, do you? Really I think it comes down to Ward getting his legal issues sorted one way or another. If he was with DiBella or TR or something, I do think the fight would be in the cards.
Yeah stuff like this always gets in the way of fights happening. They should both have a tune up GGG for his first fight at 168 to get adjusted and Ward a stay busy fight and meet late this year or early next year.
