We don't know if "this version" is any worse than the version who fought Kovalev or the guys on Golovkin's resume. People have doubted Hopkins before and he has proven them wrong.

He could be. But I don't believe Naazim would let him push forward unless he believes he still had something to offer, and a fighting chance.

I know that I was just giving my thoughts on k2's choice of opponent.

In fairness, I think Hopkins was like 4th or 5th in order on their list. But I don't think any of the guys listed ahead of Hopkins are inclined to face Golovkin.

I don't get this fight. If Golovkin cannot massacre a 51 year old, no matter how great / heavy he is, then I DKSAB. The only possible value would be in having Hopkins' name on his resume, which would only have value to showing the deluded haters that "he didn't duck Hopkins". I've seen people bash the Klitschkos for not beating up the corpse of Holyfield, so I guess there could be some STFU value vs the teeny haters.

Golovkin is more talented than Kovalev.

Complete garbage imo. And it's even more garbage if the fight does occur at 168 or higher.

Edit: after reading your later posts, I feel I should add: Hopkins' chances do increase with higher weight, so that makes it a more intriguing fight. But then Golovkin is opening doors for criticism about which opponent he faces at 164-168 (175?).

    Pavlik went 160 -170 .

Fonfara dropped to 172 for Chavez.

Why can't GGG drop a few for the fight is is so desperately obsessed about?

Everybody has and is willing to give up and gain a few pounds to make the big fights except 3G.
