Why not have Dirrell fight Green and give Ward a by on the third round since he is already guaranteed to advance, and is the only one in the tournament that was able to advance after just two rounds. Since he was the only one to win both of his first two fights why not give him the by. You can't really replace Kessler with a new fighter because you can't put a new fighter in with 0 points in the final group stage of the tournament, you have to give them at least two fights to give them a fair chance to advance. And clearly you can't give a replacement Kessler's points. So why not give Ward the by (almost like in the NFL playoffs) since he's going to advance anyways, not to mention there are problems in negotiating the fight between him and Dirrell, and have Dirrell fight Green? Your thoughts?
It'll deprive us of a Ward vs Dirrell fight, which would have been very interesting. But seeing as those two can't work out a solution to face each other, it might not be that bad of an idea to pit Dirrell against Green. It'll be a boring fight, but at least it could help the tournament progress without too much hassle.
sounds good to me, cause like you said ward & dirrell can't decide on a venue. ward should get a by. i think bringing in someone new is wack, because @ this stage of the tourney, it'll be super hard to advance. the only way i'd accept adding someone new, it would have to be Bute, he's the best of the rest & would have the best chance of advancing.
I just mean that even if they don't fight in the semi-finals, I expect them both to advance to finals.
I agree 100%. Its not right to just kick out Green and call the other two fights the semis. He had a genuine chance to go through by KO.
You can never be too sure though. Yes, I'd be confident in Ward's ability to get through to the final, but not so Dirrell's.
Yeah!! give Dirrell a bum to beat and Ward a pass ... Now that they have an alternative they will never fight one another because one is a chicken and the other doesn't want's to lose his title. I hope the whole thing falls appart so i can see Bute beating them 1 by 1 starting with Dirrell or Froch
One question though......Ward may very well have already advanced in to the Semi Finals, but he's not guaranteed that 1st spot in the table, is he? Because the Abraham/Froch winner will grab another 2 points (notching up 5 in total) and fire themselves to the number one spot (above Ward who’d have 4 points). In fact, if Dirrell beats Green he’d too grab himself 4 points. Would Ward be happy to concede his number one ranking and risk falling to 2,3 or 4 in the rankings? Because despite my initial impression, the final 4 aren't randomly drawn in to a semi-final. Instead it'll be: - 1st ranked vs 4th ranked - 2nd ranked vs 3rd ranked To improve the chances of reaching the final, Ward would ideally want to finish 1st. Or are the other 3 fighters so evenly matched, that his chances wouldn't be affected regardless of who he faces?
