since paul williams chased after the quintana rematch. what did he see or feel that made him run from the margarito rematch.and why do so many williams fans forget that while williams won the fight he also took the beating.the first 7 rounds looked like margarito just woke up,some of it was obviously williams workrate but margarito clearly wasn't pushing himself.but those last 5 rounds williams was really getting hammered.i think he felt margarito had figured him out and the rematch would have pretty much started where the first fight ended.

    I had Paul winning a clear fight. 7 - 5

Looking at this article though, http://www.signonsandiego.com/uniontrib/20070716/news_1s16boxing.html

seems that Arum got Cotto the hell out of dodge when there was a possibility of Paul fighting him.

"Had Margarito won, he would have been positioned to oppose Miguel Cotto of Puerto Rico, the WBA welter ruler. Arum had said that this match had been signed.

“I'll fight Cotto next,” volunteered Williams. “Let's sign the papers.”

Arum has other plans. He said his intention is to put Cotto in with Shane Mosley. “Obviously, that's a much better fight,” Arum said. "

Whoa....! Williams did well and consistant throughout the fight....Marg on the other hand was dominated early then started to gain some steam. In no way was Marg "Hammering" Williams. I mean...he was landing some solid shots but Williams was NEVER hurt...he didn't stop his punch out put and he was still moving forward. YES...Marg did alot better than he did for the initial 6 or 8 rounds but in no way did Marg hand Willams an ass whoopin...

Regarding the why Williams didn't take an immediate rematch with Marg??? Have no idea but I know that it would have been anther really good one. But ultimately the same outcome as the first.....maybe a bit more competitive on Margs end.

If marg had been just a bit more competitive he would have won so that is not the same outcome.

yea i'm sure williams wanted to fight cotto win or lose it was alot more money.but i remenber the interview after the fight when asked about a rematch he immediately said he was looking for other options(cotto ,mayweather)i'm not saying he won the fight i thought it was obvious williams deserved the win, however by the end of the fight margarito had clearly brought the fight back in hs favor. in the 10th round williams looked to be in serious trouble i felt he was very lucky to have heard that bell.williams was rocked quite a few times in the second half of that fight.it just seems to me after a close fight like that and margarito being the champ a rematch was warranted. and if williams felt he could have done it again he would have especially since the margarito rematch would have been much bigger for him financially than anything else he was offered

why would he chase a rematch with the guy he beat? he wanted to move on to other things probably... im not saying there shouldnt be a rematch but, chasing a guy that beat you for a rematch, and chasing a guy that you beat.. for a rematch... lol... is so not comparible.

Honestly I didn't think the fight was that close...I just saw signs of Marg gaining confidence and steam towards the end. I don't think he won most of the championship round...he just did "better". I had Williams winning by 4 points in the end. Marg had the harder punches but the work rate out shined Margs power shots for me.

i did not say williams should chase margarito for a rematch. i was saying why wouldn't he grant him the rematch. yes williams has finally stated he would fight margarito, because he realized that he is in an upcoming mega fight with cotto. while williams is now left looking in and stuck with a 1-1 record against quintana who he should have beaten the first time.everyone has a bad night some more than others it is very easy for a fighter to get distracted in a fight.i believe his win over margarito was a fluke and he needed to solidify his win .it was 7 clear rounds to 5 clear rounds.the difference being that one man was outworked while the other man dealt out a mugging

Williams had it in the contract to rematch Quintana, he didn't have to chase much.

Margarito didn't have that clause in the contract cause Williams was a mandatory

winning by 2 rounds is nothing. 1 round goes the other way and its a draw

Quintana's victory over Williams was clear. He also won by 2-3 rounds. No way under any circumstances could it be considered anything else even with close rounds

    This is bullcrap buddy.

Why would Williams run from a rematch with a fighter he already has beaten. Margarito should have pushed for the rematch if anything.

And yeah . . . He chased the rematch with Quintana because he wants his belt back. Is anything unussual about that?
