Since Pulev struggled past Thompson, I've never seen his name mentioned again!!

    On ANY forum

I'm guessing although he got the 'W', an overweight 41 year old Thompson coming 4 weeks off his 2nd fight with Price in 4 months pretty much exposed Pulev's ceiling.

He was seen as the Next Great Heavyweight ... now It's almost like he never existed!

Pulev never "struggled". He was a bit rusty in the early rounds after his long layoff.

But he adjusted to Thompson's awkward style and won rounds 4 to 6. Pulev then dominated rounds 7 to 12 against a very crafty, durable and underrated heavyweight, who earlier in the year had twice KOed the 2012 ESPN "Prospect of the Year".

Thompson said he took the fight because he was still in very good shape after his preparation for the second Price fight.

Ain't so much that, but Pulev ain't really what you'd call an exciting fighter. Ain't he a mando for Wlad now, and rated by many as the #2 or 3 HW?

Well then, possibly you are right. His ceiling may be just below the Klitschkos.

Also bear in mind that there has been many big events since, and more on the way, so Pulev just ain't really newsworthy right now.

As for 'scraping past' TT (who's a damn hero for my money) he won exactly as predicted by those who follow HW. Was always gonna be either a late stoppage or a points decision. That's just what Pulev does. He ain't flashy, just solid and workmanlike. He's too big to smother and his jab keeps his opponents from really getting to him.

He'll be back in the news when his mando comes round.

Actually I think he gets more credit for overcoming a strong first couple of rounds from Thompson and then clearly beating the man who knocked out ballyhooed prospect and supposed Wladimir clone David Price twice in a row than he did for his last few wins. Sprott is old as dirt, Ustinov is slow and sucks, and Dimitrenko is a little from column A plus a little from column B. Struggling a tiny bit with Ustinov and getting stung by a couple of his shots was actually far more embarrassing and damning for the Pulev hype & praise machine than losing a few early rounds against Thompson. His stock dipped slightly after Ustinov and he raised it significantly higher with Thompson.

pulev looked like an amateur boxer... he looked terrible against thompson.... oddly enough thompson was actually winning the first few rounds .... pulev should stay away from the Ks... he will get destroyed... not to mention he's feather fisted... there is noithing threatening about him

    :huh

His level has remained the same, a good prospect that takes on decent challengers for his level while constantly pushing up the rankings. Bizarre thread.

it isn't easy to look good vs TT, plus Pulev had almost a year off

he'll never beat Wlad, but he makes a tough fight for anyone else

Why bashing Pulev? He basically schooled Thompson once he adjusted to his style after the first 3-4 rounds. And if you didn't notice, most of the people got him at #3 or around that, so don't talk nonsense.

Next time at least try to cover your hatred towards the guy.

Struggled? He's a top 5 heavyweight and he took care of business against Thompson like he was supposed to. Pulev's fought one southpaw in his pro career and it only took him a couple rounds to figure Tony out. Not sure how that's a negative.

The guy is a legit contender who has managed to beat a lot of credible opponents during a relatively brief career. He has wins over Skelton, Walker, Ustinov, Dimetrinko, Vidoz, Guinn, Sprott etc.

And against Thompson he overcame some ring rust and a tricky opponent to win a lopsided decision. A good accomplishment but nothing to do backflips over.

One question to both the Pulev fans and Pulev haters.........

Did any of yall actually watch the fight> Or did you read an article written by a Thompson fan irt the fight?

Seems almost everyone considers Pulev to have lost rds 1-4. That was hardly the case.

The fight opened up very slowly, with both fighters afraid of the others stiff jab and counter power shot. Pulev was tentative to miss short and eat a L and Thompson would not get into range of the Pulev jab.

Neither did much, and it wouldnt be robbery to give Thompson 3/4 of those first rds, but if ever there were 10/10 rds, those first 4 were them.

After midway through the 4th, Pulev figured out Thompson and began to thud the R hand thru Thomspons high guard.

The rest of the fight consisted of Pulevs superior footwork getting the step to land that R hand, and Thomspon slowing each rd and doing next to nothing.:-(

It was as boring a fight Ive seen since Pulev clearly had ZERO interest in putting punches together. Had he decided to mix in a L hook up and down following the L right hand, he may have gotten TNT outta there. But oh well...... a classic 9-3 type win for Khan Kubrat.:think

Even Wlad didn't look great against Thompson, in both fights. I think Thompson needs to be given credit, he's underrated.....and Pulev beat him. I don't see how Pulev was "exposed".
