Lionel Rose, Conteh,Old Bones, Carlos Ortiz and to a lesser extent Eddie Gregory remind me of certain facets of him at times.

Similarly angled boxing stances( with the lower left) and body rhythm when fencing from the outside.Rose pure boxing is sometimes like a featherfisted, polite version of Ray's.The way Conteh was willing to get suddenly explosive and wild with leads and combo's, then go back to composed boxing was very much a Robinson like trait.

seeing as we are going back to ray's time and not just since...
from the very small amount of footage i seen of him...and what i have read...
    tommy bell.

the fight between the two was meant to have been very hard for ray too, and he was down..

Ike Williams, Johnny Bratton 'n SRL -- 'specially early in his career -- jump-out first, but over time, there've been legions of SRR look alikes. But once in hot water, it was clear they were Sweet 'n Low, not SUGAR.

john, answer me this, my whole thoery of jones being similar to Ray (first post) , does it hold substance, was ray that quick (not getting hit, etc) or is it just completely two different animals altogether? seeing as you leanrt and watched ray in ww prime many times, im guessing you know his style inside out, were he and jones similar?

A little but not like how he was in his prime. When he comes in throwing his lead shots it reminds me of Robinson but he just isn't too comparable to Robinson anymore other than a few of his combinations.

Young Robinson on film does look similar to Jones Jr. Leaping at his opponents with quick hooks from weird angles, followed by quick flurries at close range.

SRR 'n RJ are totally different animals, b, except at their peak, they were arrogantly incomparable. SRR was an ol' school-- textbook -- silky-smooth predator -- a STONE killer with a gladiator's heart, instinct for drama 'n the constitution of a tank.

Jones was a wunderkind, totally unique -- awash in speed 'n talent -- a new-age improviser that marched to his own drummer. Mind-numbing to watch at his peak. Everybody else was a sprinter 'n he was Usain Bolt.

alot of young boxers looked up to Sugar Ray Robinson none more than Cassius Clay. i think Clay resembled Robinson style mostly because Clay saw SRR as the greatest and that inspired him to want be the greatest also, which i think played a part in Clays style developing into what i believe is the greatest.

it seemed Clays proudest moment was when he shouted. 'YOU TELL SONNY LISTON DATS IM HERE WITH SUGAR RAY' thats respect

Mosley had a similar approach with the fast offense, he is light years behind Robinson for footwork though.
