    Pacquiao or JMM???

    Manny Pacquiao

    2008:
-June: Defeats David Diaz- TKO 9(MY pick was Pac T/KO 10) to win WBC LW belt, held it for 8 mos. without defenses

-December: Defeats ODLH- TKO 8(MY pick was ODLH T/KO 8 just fighting for money and the lottery ticket to become a "great" by beating the cashcow in a cherrypick fight created by Oscar(at least he believed that) and then fought weight drained by accepting what the majority called an "Oscar's circus".

    2009:
-May: Defeats Ricky Hatton- KO 2(MY pick was Pac UD 12) to win the IBO/Ring Magazine belts. Even though he beat the man at the weight(something PBF didn't) he doesn't get that many of respect because he fought "damaged goods" and he had the blueprint to beat him from PBF and Collazo(which in part is true)

-November: Defeats Miguel Cotto- TKO 12(MY pick was Pac TKO 6) in a laughable mismatch to me, because Cotto got a gift decision from the judges in his previous bout, so how he can handle Pac if he couldn't handle Clottey??. Pac wins the WBO belt, which he still holds(I believe).

    2010:
-March: Defeated Joshua Clottey- UD 12(MY pick too) defending his WBO belt for the first time. As negotiations with PBF fell, this was the only one available in the division, but everyone knew that Clottey won't be a threat in that fight. I've seen people that call this fight a "fixed" one, I'm not one of those, simply that's the way Clottey fights, and a very fast opponent makes Clottey look like what he looked.

-November: Defeated Antonio Margarito- UD 12(My initial pick was Pac TKO 9, but when I saw that Pac wasn't training as focused(it was true) I changed to UD 12. Pac wins a vacant WBC LMW belt by fighting a man who is a nobody in the sports since January 2009(everyone knows why) and they make him look great by beating a nobody, how his victory can be more spectacular than Mosley when SSM was the underdog, did what he did and Pac fought a ruined Margo please. Not to mention he fought for a 154# belt at a 150# catchweight(that isn't the bad part) and weighing in at 144#(what a joke).

    Juan Manuel Marquez

    2008
-September: Defeated Joel Casamayor- TKO 11(My pick was JMM UD 12) to win the Ring Magazine LW belt. A good opponent but coming off a poor performance against Katsidis(I felt he struggled too much for my expectations), still a respectable win.

    2009
-February: Defeated Juan Diaz- TKO 9(MY pick was the same) to win the vacant WBA/WBO LW belts, the IBA belt and defend the Ring Magazine belt(still holds those belts, aside the IBA obviously that means nothing). To me an overrated opponent, but they sold the fight very well and they fought a great fight.

-September: Lost to Floyd Mayweather Jr.(MY pick was PBF TKO 9) in a "fight" that doesn't even deserved to be call like that, so I don't think I have to explain why he lost.

    2010
-July: Defeated Juan Diaz- UD 12(MY pick was JMM TKO 7). Defending the WBA/WBO/Ring Magazine belts. After Diaz was ruined in their first fight and two "taken to school" performances by Malignaggi, there was no reason to make this fight, only money but it happened.

-November: Defeated Michael Katsidis- TKO 9(MY pick was T/KO 9). Good opponent but a mismatch considering skills, JMM detractors or Katsidis supporters just rely on JMM finally to show he wasn't the same, and even showing he isn't the same he won.

Now you can answer the question:good

Yeah, and the OP calls the Cotto fight a "laughable mismatch"? Get real. On this board, the polls were right about split 50/50 before the fight. Cotto is without a doubt one of Pacman's best wins.

There are always people that discredit for one reason or the other what a fighter does. That's why I'm doing this(for those who think JMM).

I'd presume that anyone who doesn't say Manny has had some form of lobotomy. Yeah Marquez is a warrior and deserve the shot at Manny but he hasn't done anything near what Manny since their last bout.

I thought Cotto had more of a shot than Oscar at the time. I thought he would actually get knocked out at the time.

I don't care about polls, even Nacho Beristain said that Cotto was no match for Pacquiao, to Cotto win Pac needed oto suffer an accident before the fight, broke a foot or something. It's like saying 47% of the people said that Margo was a live dog and had a chance agaisnt Pac, please.:hey

    To the OP:

Switch JMM and Pacquiao and have them fight each other's opponents. Post what you think the outcomes of the fights would be. Then rethink this thread because it's ridiculous.

So you think Pacman is that good huh? That he can take on an elite WW who is noticeably bigger than him and still call that fight a mismatch? I think he's that good too. I guess we are in agreement. :smooch

not even worth discussing. JMM doesn't have Pacquiao's frame and that's been pretty evident. Peak for peak, these guys are in the same tier in terms of ability

You simply don't know Cotto like I know him. I've only being wrong on Cotto's fights vs. Judah, Clottey(because the judges gave him the fight) and Yuri. How can Cotto's poor defense can survive Pac's quickness.

My response: With Oscar I said the same thing(strength and size) and he couldn't even touched him. And Margo above 147# have never fought the same way he fights at welter, yes Pac also have to gain weight but his speed will be there, just a few combos in the very first minute and the people will see the mismatch right away. Margo chased Mosley for nothing, and whoever chases Pacquiao lately, you know what has happened. The slow starter won't have a chance against Pac, mark my words.

GO TO THE THREAD: DOES MARGARITO HAVE A CHANCE?

Thank god! Someone that finally agrees! Manny will get smashed to pieces. His speed won’t matter, Cotto has dealt with a quicker and more skilled fighter in Moseley!

My response to that dumb guy:

Mosley faster than Pacquiao?? better watch the tapes again man(Alex Boomer). Miguel Cotto’s abilities are just above average, but not great as many people says. Clottey was able to land 222 punches and he pressed not even 50% to what Margarito did(who landed 187 punches), Manny have enough stamina and quickness to stop this guy(something that Cotto doesn’t have) and power is not all in this business. Manny will win the same way he beat the other 2 guys, hit and run away remember that Cotto doesn’t have the engines to pressure the whole night or to box the whole night, so Manny will win anyway.

People always make ex post facto comments on opponents after fights occur. The FACT is, no one thought the outcome of the DLH fight would be what it was. Hoya gave away one weight class. Pac gave away TWO, and is something that Juan could not do. But no, no one ever sees that Pac was great that night even though the odds were STACKED against him.

I thought his jabs where going to be the key against the shorter armed man. I thought Manny's own defence at the time was going to make him vulnerable to the left hook as he came in also. Whereas I thought Oscar was way to past it to use his own strengths to his advantage.

I can hold my hands up and say I was drastically wrong in the Cotto case.
