Since when did Macklin become Irish????

    First of all i am not hating on the boy and for all the Scottish boys looking at my user name i am not having some sort of petty dig at him but when did this start??
    I have been watching him since he was a prospect and loved watching it but as far i was aware he was from Birmingham until the Sturm fight. Marketing ploy much??????

    He is not Irish at all and people in Ireland don't even know who he is. There is no way he would be fully accepted by the Irish people as being Irish. It's pretty clear that it was a business decision to "turn" Irish. The guy was from Birmingham all his career but as soon as he realised the Irish angle could make him a few quid in marketing they went that way. keep in mind he was born and raised in England. He is the most english sounding Irishman I have ever heard. It's actually an considered an insult among a lot of guys I know that casually follow boxing, that he calls himself Irish.

    But because he was born and raised in Birmingham he started his career in the English amateur scene. But Matthew has even played hurling for tipperary to a very high level.

    He obviously had a lot of English fans with him being born there.but in his own words "just because you are born in a stable, it does not mean you are a horse"

    I have to agree with lads above, i remember there was talk of Hatton using Irish roots to exploit another market.

    Macklin was a lad studying law from Birmingham now he's this Irish warrior. It does **** me off a bit tbh.

    If he wants to be Irish let him be, i hope Martinez wins anyways i don't like Macklin all that much tbh...
