My point is that I dont believe Lennox would have ever stepped foot in England again let alone "represent" Britain if Lawerence hadnt have made that faithful interception and steered him to Maloney. If he had signed for the West Coast USA manager he was there looking for then he would simply have been marketed as "a Canadian Olympic medalist". It was a good thing for him that he did turn to Britain because they were crying out for a decent heavyweight at the time and Lennox got massive back from them.
He didn't actually, most folk loved Bruno. Lennox largely went unloved for most the part while in Britain. Even coming close to the end of his career, the Tyson fight, I think many folks at least, wished Tyson to win it. During his time fighting, the British public never truly took to Lennox, at least not to the point they had taken to other fighters.
Yh very true slapbang, I can't understand why people are on Macklins case so much over this subject? Bottom line is it don't really matter, my point was he ain't the first person to be born outside a country but some how represent them, it happens all the time in football, and the Klitchkos where born in Kazakhstan but claim to be Ukrainian, boxed for Russia as amateurs and are now seen as Germans lol, no one ever comments on that :-(
It's not true as regards to Lewis, the British public never really took to Lennox when he was boxing. Sure, it might have been the plan, arguably, to drum up support, but whilst boxing, Lennox never really garnished any great level of support from the British public relative to his status.
Chisora was born In Zimbabwe and moved to London when he was 11, Lenox Lewis was born in London to Jamaican parents and moved to Canada when he was 2yrs old and represented them as a amatuer and won gold for them at the olympics:good
He was 12 years old, not 2. What's the difference then, that Lewis represented them at an amateur level?
I think that's because the british public held Bruno so close to there hearts as they did for Henry Cooper years earlier, they appreciated Lewis after though and hold him in high regard now even though the ****s lived in America for some many years and only ever lived here for a very short time through out his whole life :nut me personally wouldn't class him as British
One thing is for sure and that is neither of them have an British heritage and are without a drop of English blood between them. Anyway, I'll leave it at that hombre, not looking to fall out with anyone here of this subject.
He moved to London when he was 16 Guvnor. I moved to London when I was 17..........hmmmmmm, I wonder where I can get one of those natty UJ bandanas!?
this is ridiculous people. if the irish had a trait at birth (except small penises) we would not have this conversation. audley harrison, rendall munroe and junior witter wear the emerald admirals on thier trunks...no one says a word
I have mad love for Macklin, but the Irish thing is quite embarrassing. The crowd at MSG was not was it was expected either. Their hardly a stupid bread, he is English, end of. If he is Irish, then I am Portuguese. But I am not, I was born and raised in the UK. The Irish can have that overseas loss, we have had our fair share of late!!
