Why are so many English people getting their knickers in a twist about Macklin wearing Irish colours or being proud of his heritage...it's not like he used to walk out with a union jack and all of a sudden started wearing a tricolour instead.

No one seems to call Khan a traitor for calling himself a "British Pakstani" and not english but because Macklin is white, he has to call himself english, even though he has Irish passport and citizenship? I think this says a lot more about the people demanding he abandon his bloodline and heritage and call himself english, than it does about Macklin.

if macklin had some disctinctive racial makeup, people wouldnt have a problem. If his parents were chinese and he identified himself as chinese, his physical appearance would dictate that. Its that hes white and speaks with a accent.

If a British diplomat moved to outer mongolia with his wife, had a baby there, would that child be british or mongolian?

what i dont get is why some british posters get so angry at this?


Besides, there is a massive irish diaspora in britain now, with the children / grandchildren of irish people coming through in all walks of UK life, so whilst not forgetting their heritage, they appreciate everything the UK has done for them.

interesting fact is that apparently bean sprouts have outgrown tattys as the biggest veg because irish people have some genetic disposition to liking chinese food. Belfast theres about 3/4 curry places and literally like 500 chinese:rofl

 

Lol I've no idea why they get so angry, jealousy is the only reason I can think of.
Some embrace their genetic/cultural heritage, whereas others (like icemax) are ashamed of it, and try to be more English than the english themselves.

I guess in a country that's always been as ethnically diverse as England, being born there is all thats needed to be fully accepted by all, as being English (unless you're yellow, brown or black!) :hey
