So in answer to the question, Cotto has only been the number 1 contender to Floyd since December when Floyd beat Hatton, thats 5-6 months. Even then this is arguable, especially as Delahoya took Floyd to an SD and some had Mosley beating Cotto

remove all those crappy details, thing is he won those fights and is undefeated. So is hatton before he face mayweather he was undefeated. Beat 2 current champs at 140(malignaggi and torres), beat a current champ at 147 which is quintana, beat former undisputed titlist at 140 which is judah, beat ATG and HOF mosley. Thats his resume..

De La Hoya has a win over Whitaker (which trumps anything Mosley has done), plus a win over a faded Chavez, Quartey, Hernandez, Ruelas, Leija, and a much better Vargas. Also throw in a close, very disputed loss to Trinidad and its clear who the better fighter despite the results of when they met.

Thats just a case of styles, is Forrest better than Mosley? He must be by that logic. Is Jermain Taylor better than Hopkins? Just because someone beats the other head to head doesn't make them superior especially when De La Hoya has a far better record.
