I disagree bc he leaned in and got floored by an uppercut.

I remember Max Kellerman calling it the biggest ppv mismatch in history in the pre fight build up.

No one expected it to be tough.

Especially when it was decided that Gatti was gonna try outbox him.

I'm reluctant to try to name a single All Time Best performance, especially something of recent vintage. I have to look at history. Maybe Dempsey-Willard or the aforementioned Louis-Schmelling II.

Not all-time-best, but others that come to mind are Ali-Williams, the noted Holmes-Shavers I (this 10 year old didn't see that coming!), Tapia-Romero, Jones-Toney, Spinks-****ey (didn't see that thrashing coming, either, though hindsight helps explain it), Duran-Moore, and Curry-McCrory. With more time we could all name dozens of others...

Good call. Virtually all the experts asked prior to this fight, picked Moore to win. It was though that Duran wouldn't be able to handle his power. Instead, it was a systematic beat down, of the highest order. The only criticism of this fight is the ref should have stopped it about a round earlier.

I don't think that bolsters your argument all that much. The one's who did pick Gatti seemed to do so out of sentiment reasons and admitted their brains know Mayweather will win. I didn't spend much time reading it all, but I don't think anyone out and out said Gatti will win because he's the better fighter. The closest was well my brain says Mayweather but my heart wants Gatti to win. Hardly a ringing endorsement.

I still don't understand why everyone ever thought so highly of Davey Moore.

Most picked Mayweather, but too many thought it would be competitive or picked Gatti. That was my point. There were more votes for Gatti in the lower half of the list than top.

I'd throw in Hopkins vs Tito.

Tito was heavy favourite, and if I remember rightly he was P4P number one. He didn't even win a round. He didn't control any part of the fight.

Well I just finished watching his fight against Benitez and one thing Moore had was power to spare, and he wasn't a bad boxer either.

But against Duran, it was a combination of those factors, plus the fact that most thought Duran was a finished fighter and had neither the power to hurt Moore or the chin to absorb Moore's power.

So will it may have seemed that everyone loved Moore, the truth is that most also felt Duran was out of his league.

Interesting that few of the classic destructions have been named yet. Hard to see how Liston w Patterson, Foreman w Frazier or Tyson w Spinks could have been done better. Nor for that matter Sanders w Wlad.

But I'll throw Sanchez w Gomez in the hat rather than any of the above.

And for one that rarely gets mentioned: Benitez w Duran.

Camacho vs Bazooka Limon the most impressive display of speed, ring generalship, power and killer instinct from Camacho. This is the Camacho that set the standard for everyones frustration the rest of his career.

Holmes-****ey- ****ey was the real deal, huge, decent skills and all time power and killer instinct. Holmes was on his game and showed his greatness he should be given credit for how he handled this guy.

Michael Nunn-Kalambay- Nunn seemed to peak inn this fight his timing, speed and power were all working right.

Duran- Leonard 1- Durans single greatest fight performance against the best welterweight I have ever witnessed, Leonard showed KO power, courage, great chin, super speed and accuracy and the best legs in the game and Duran beat him up plain and simple. As a welter I place Leonard competitive with Robinson.

JCC vs Rosario- the Ultimate PR vs Mexico rivalry fight, JCC showed a chin, tenacity, brutal inside fighting, patience and cruelty on a Duran level.
