RJJ's win over Toney RJJ's win over Hopkins Ali's win over Liston Ali's win over Foreman Fitzsimmons' win over Corbett to become the first ever MW champion to win a HW title (Best win in terms of historical significance) Floyd's win over Marquez. (Nobody has EVER made Marquez look as bad as Floyd did). Leonard's win over Hearns Spinks' win over Holmes Jack Johnson's win over Tommy Burns to become the first ever black Heavyweight Champion of the World (Again, best win in terms of historical significance)
Toney knocking out Nunn should be up there as Nunn was undefeated and a young Toney was the late replacement
Easily Louis beating Schmeling in the rematch... The ramifications where HUGE for the loser. This was during World War 2 and Schmeling was looked on as proof of German Aryan White supremacy after beating Louis in the first fight... He went from German hero to complete dogshite and a disgrace to the nation in Hitlers eyes. He was sent to the front lines and was rumoured to have been killed in action but it turned out he was just badly wounded. Louis was looked on as a black hero and defender of all America against the powerful Nazi’s!!! I can’t think of another fight where a boxer is going to potentially be killed, not due to injuries sustained in the fight, if he loses... I know this thread is for best win and I believe the Louis win should be ranked up there but I thought I would throw in the worst potential loss for shits and giggles...
I will throw Leon Spinks win over Ali in 1978 into the mix, undisputed champion in his 8th bout. Have to say it also brings back good memories, a wet behind the ears teenage Kernow still in basic recruit training, watching the bout with rest of recruits. That image of Spinks being lifted aloft on getting the decision sure was a Rocky moment. Ok it was for one night only but no one could take away fact that Leons name is indelibly printed in boxings history, "and new heavyweight champion of the world............."
