Marquez went up to 2 weight classes and then the 144 catchweight was ignored by Floyd. It would be like Pac agreeing to fight Lomachenko at 144 and then disregarded the catchweight. Guarantee that it would be a one-sided massacre.
Frazier over Ali Leonard over Hagler (agree with decision or not...) Duran over Leonard Tarver over Jones Douglas over Tyson Dempsey over Willard JMM over Pacquiao Eubank over Watson (I know, but it was an ATG shocking desperation comeback) Schmeling over Louis Rahman over Lewis Hopkins over Trinidad
#1 by a mile is Louis Schmeling 2, if you are taking into account everything around that fight. Despite the fact that Schmeling was not a nazi and was actually a decent guy, somehow that fight ended up being a proxy for good vs evil. And here you had Louis, a black man in 1938 (consider the racial environment of those times) as the champion of good and democracy with the president of the US personally telling him he needs to win, up against a guy who had KO'd him in their last fight... and Louis comes out and demolishes him in 2 minutes. I don't know if it is even possible for another fight to ever overcome that. Is there a top Russian HW for Usyk to go fight?
Historic fight but purely in boxing terms, I don't rate it as highly because Louis was favored in the rematch and Schemling wasn't an ATG.
A few that resonated with me at the time: Spinks vs Ali Kirkland Laing over Roberto Duran Honeyghan vs Don Curry
Duran over Leonard Duran over Barkley Toney over Nunn Jones over Toney Frazier over Ali Spinks over Ali Ali over Liston Ali over Foreman Spinks over Holmes Douglas over Tyson Sanders over W. Klitschko Rahman over Lewis Braddock over Baer Ruiz over AJ Usyk over AJ
Its definitely up there for me. Frazier was really game that night. He was a great fighter but really seemed to turn it up that night. The media never focuses on Fraziers win over Ali these days anymore. It's all about Ali over Foreman. Let's not forget about Fraziers job on Ali!
It's a great win. I thought Rigo was going to expose Loma here. And it wasn't size that hindered Rigo, he couldn't even read Loma and his use of angles. Rigo was hitting air all night and then realized he's never going to hit him so quit on his stool. How is that not a great meaningful win?
Pacquiao-Cotto is up there. 90% of people expected Pacquiao to get murdered. And Paulie said that Pacquiao would be the GOAT if he got passed Cotto.
