How we interpret the question of the thread title will be subjective to differing criteria. I only briefly saw the title while on my lunch break and those are the fights that immediately came to mind…as well as Duran over Leonard 1. My criteria for the fights I listed was magnitude. Not whether or not they were a fighter’s greatest win or opponent, or whether or not the fight was an epic, back and forth bloodbath, but the magnitude and symbolism of what the fighters and cultural circumstances were at the time
Hopkins was not good at the time, he went 50/50 with some plumber a few fights later. Toney was fat and had to cut a lot of weight before the fight. The start of fat toney Marquez was brought up 2 weight classes and lied about a catchweight
Leonard over Hagler. Came back after years out, jumped up to a weight class he's not fought in and out pointed one of the best ever who was still a force. Whether you agree with the scores or not, it's remarkable Leonard didn't get whooped.
Must’ve mentioned a dozen times already in the thread but The Brawl in Montreal is the obvious answer, followed by The Rumble in the Jungle.
