What do you think is the one single biggest fight in the history of boxing, taking every think into account, time in fighters careers, legacy, draw, hype etc.
FOTC should be the consensus but I can see some mentioning Leonard-Duran or Hearns-Hagler. As far as overall hype...Tyson-Holyfield was a pretty big deal at the time even though both fighters were past it.
not sure about the world but eubanks vs benn 2 was HUUUGE here in the UK, i was little and i remember everyone was going crazy. also lewis vs tyson had the world looking out.
Has to be 'The Rumble', surely. Maybe not to people who know boxing, but that's the point. Even people who don't know the slightest thing about it know about that fight.
I was going to mention Benn-Eubanks so good call there. Also, do you think Tyson-Lewis was more hyped than Tyson-Holyfield? I'm not challenging you, just asking.
Ali-Frazier I Ali-Frazier III Ali-Foreman. Tyson-Holyfield II Leonard-Duran I Hagler-Hearns. Hagler-Leonard.
In terms of Fantasy, there is no doubt that an Ali-Tyson match up would have been THE single biggest fight in history! In terms of bouts that have actually happened, I'd go with Ali-Frazier 1. Both guys received $2.5M, the President attended the fight, both were Undefeated, etc. The fight had been a few years in the making!
louis - schmeling 2 ali - frazier 1 jack johnson - jim jeffries not just the biggest fights ever, but probably the greatest sporting events of all time.
I like Jack Johnson VS Jim Jeffries :good Damn, when racism was a big issue that time, that fight was hyped as a fight of two different polarities!! It wasn't only Black VS White!! Good VS Evil Super Hero VS Super Villain Jedi VS Sith Superman VS Dark Seid Ike VS Tina ...
Yeh these 3 qualify as top of each era, all had that Political/Racial & in some ways a somewhat religious dimension to them.
