Seen a lot over past 2 days about how too much pressure on ritson too big a jump etc 9000 fans domestic to euro level and eddies matchmaking , but at some point every fighter has got step up may fold may flourish but they have to take a step up the risk is well worth the reward.i get all.fighters its different ie age, amateur experience the weight divison etc but in ritson case he will learn far more form that defeat than blasting out guys in 1 round at domestic level. Look at Taylor 10 fights then in a 50 50 fight with Davies beats him then takes on postol who has only been beaten off a p4p top 3 in Crawford massive jumps in class . He has presure of being realistic only big name in Scotland and he has flourished on big platform and grown confidence. Ritson may have did same ok he lost but he still can regroup build learn from it ,would much rather see this than 20 25 fights and fighting very poor opposition a loss shouldn't be end of the world in boxing.its a minor miracle not to lose at sum point. Wasn't the kids night and fair play to him not one excuse about the weight admitted he got hurt was refreshing see such honestly and actual became more of a fan after it rather than daft excuses

This was a small step up in terms of opposition and incomparable to Taylor taking on Postol. He had won the British outright so this was the next logical fight. He has also had around 100 odd amateur fights so he is not new to boxing like an Anthony Yarde. From a progressive viewpoint there was nothing wrong with the matchmaking. Some people can handle the pressure and other cannot. AJ absolutely thrives on it, Tyson Fury rises to it and others like Bakole completely fall apart. I think Ritson can come again but I would like to see him under the tutelage of somebody more experienced who has been there and done that. Ricky Hatton would seem like the perfect match.

Yep. It’s the fight game and these things can happen. I’d rather be given a reality check early in my career than be on a long streak built on weak opposition, false confidence and lose.

If he’s destined to a be a great fighter, this is a good catalyst. Objectively breakdown where he went wrong and work on it.

Come back stronger. Hopefully he can do that.

Yeah I don't buy into the pressure thing, I said in the Bakole thread that if he has any aspirations of getting to top level then dealing with pressure is just as important as dealing with the fighter ur up against. Its an attribute you need to succeed at the top.

When a bloke with supposedly big power is found out to be not that powerful, how often do the rebuild and come again?

This Guy was the Geordie GGG ffs, now he doesn't even scare low tier Euro fighters now?

Apart from power there isn't a hell of a lot there if you ask me?

He isn't a physical specimen, I think his size is a little overstated? Speed is lackig
If he's 5ft10 then how tall is Patera?

Don't get me wrong he's not small for the weight, but he's no Callum Smith either

Patera isn’t low level euro - he’s a good fighter.

He may be a good fighter, depending on your definition of good.

He certainly is low tier Euro. Not even close to world class.
