That was on Friday 31st May. On Monday 3rd June the heavyweight landscape is suddenly very different. We have a new WBA, WBO & IBF world champion. Mexico gets behind its major fighters and Ruiz could be capable of tapping into a big fan base. I don’t see how boxing has lost. It’s up to Joshua to rebuild and put himself in that conversation again.

I like Ruiz and it's a great story, but the best thing for boxing over the past few years would have been Joshua v Wilder and now that's as far away as it has been for a long time.

I don't get some boxing fans. It's almost like they want the sport to remain stuck in a minority role. Ruiz isn't bringing many people to it is he? Be realistic here; it's not a good look to have a fat guy like him as your poster boy.

I hear your points. Im also a huge Fury fan. I also can’t stand Hearn and more so PPV - it’s ruined boxing imo. But i also love to follow British boxing - following your logic, if Buatsi becomes big enough to become one of Hearns PPV cash cows, will you turn against him? They are all used merely as pawns to make their promoters as rich as humanly possible. Fury’s promoter the same - but doesn’t stop me being a Fury fan or a fan of British boxing in general.

Not turning on AJ mate, i’m being honest and giving my opinion on it. I genuinely, hand on heart, want Joshua to go on and do very well for himself. I just felt that he was overhyped. I have no problem with Buatsi, I think he’s technically excellent. I believe he’s going to go on and become a world champion. I rate him highly and so I have no problem with him being hyped up, i’m on the Buatsi train :)

Mate, he is the poster boy for loads of people like me with our dad bods, Greggs the bakery, KFC etc. Seriously though, it’s boxing...it’s an actual fight and being aesthetically amazing and having poster boy looks don’t win fights, boxing skills do....and Mexicans enjoy their boxing.

Name me a Hearn boxer who isn’t hyped ... he had me believing Ritson was the British Hagler!
Think they’re all flawed in some way - often that’s their appeal - cried my eyes out as a 12 year old when Bruno lost to Tyson. Often found pugilist Lennox Lewis boring to watch.

I didnt stay up for the fight (had a few beers watching the Pool down in the local) and woke up around 8am, still half asleep. Checked my phone and saw Ruiz Jnr TKO 7 and literally thought I was in a dream so closed my eyes again.
