    no but it can cause muscular imbalance which will then lead to injury.

    Heavy squats, cleans and deadlifts.

    The abdominal muscles are used to stabilize the torso throughout these lifts. Bodyweight crunches and situps don't provide enough resistance to challenge the muscles.
