I feel you mate. It's up there with the worst for me too.All this "he's at peace" stuff gives me no comfort, and I'm only a fan from across the Atlantic who never met him.:-(

I'll give it one more bump in the hope that some stateside posters are just coming onto the forum.
I knew this thread would have a short shelf life but it saddens me to see so few people discuss the sad loss of this wonderful character.
And I know his lifestyle wasn't admirable,so please don't think I'm condoning it.

He had a great depth as a boxer that often didn't get showcased nearly as much as his heart and durability, and didn't get much a chance at his best to have a mega-fight. He could've had some unbelievable fights with guys in and around his weight range through history. Most recently, Rafa/Tapia or Izzy/Tapia fights, best for best, would've been potentially jizziferous in a short-distance time machine. He is missed. IB's right though. With his story it's amazing he managed as long as he did.

    Love that pic.:good

The smaller divisions are getting more recognition now,and Johnny was more than good enough to have become a big name if he were starting out now.
    Jizziferous indeed.

Tapia remains one of boxing's most compelling figures in a sport that is filled with them. And, imo, he remains one of the best two 115lb fighters in the history of that division. When he was at his best, he was a must see fighter, and yeah, we're a bit poorer for his loss.

    RIP Johnny
