Whaaa? Most fighters below heavy are lean and rangy; its the build that works for boxing.

Pavlik doesn't put on any 'vanity' weight. If you go to a regular gym and get coached in weights, you will inevitably put on some 'good looking' muscle that may be of little use in the ring. There was an aritlce in today's paper of what Kelly's 'weight' traing consists of. No mention of barbells and free weights. All custom "unorthodox" excersices designed by a trainer. Aritlce isn't posted on line yet though. It is not all that uncommon to see the guy who looks "ripped" lose a fight.

Quick edit. It wasn't on the 'pavlik' page:
That man would be Paul “Dunner” Dunleavy, who is Pavlik’s strength trainer.
Dunleavy, who operates Ironman Warehouse on Wilson Avenue, is the guy who devises unusual methods of pain for Pavlik: fire hoses, tire beating, sleds, railroad tie squats and rice buckets.
“The rice buckets are what Kelly twists his hands in,” Dunleavy said of the concept of developing more of a snap in the fighter’s wrists.

 arm length given by hbo.

Hbo also measured calvin brocks arm length as 25in during the Timur Ibragivmov fight and then measured him 23 in during the WK fight.HBO dont know how to hold a ****ing ruler.

Anyone with eyes can see one of pavliks advantages is being LONGER across the shoulders and in the arms.

Pavlik looks rough. It's funny how some great boxers don't look how you'd imagine a boxer to look, though, Joe Calzaghe being another. I look like a cross between Calzaghe and Pavlik! I have more hair, though.

That was also evident in the previous match weigh-in and fight night - Pavlik doesn't look strong-chiseled at the weigh-in and then looks much bigger in fighting motion ( dynamically). I always sensed that Taylor is too muscled, bulked up to fight at 160, maybe even at 164-166 lbs... The strength of his big muscles increase the load when performing positive work and accelerating the body forward but paradoxically, he has increasing difficulty when he decelerates and straightens the arm at the end of his punch - he also absorbs way too much energy that would otherwise be dissipated as he would ease is breath slowly. Pavlik is a much better energy harvester because he charges up faster and discharges slower. No doubts about it - Miguel Cotto also looked much less strong than Shane Mosley did at the weigh-in pictures and then things looked entirely different in animated motion.

When you look at Pavlik, he looks like a skinny, weak man. It's amazing how this skinny kid can have so much devastating power. And his lean body helps him to tire less as the fight wears on. JT's muscular frame will play a role if it goes into the later rounds.

  8. Taylor is more Muscular which tires him out more it takes a lot of oxygen to keep them arms pumping, Pavlik is the bigger more powerful man, and hits harder and judging by the first fight is physically stronger, JT, Is in for another beating..:good

Muscle builders don't necessarily make the best boxers & have nothing to do with being able to KO someone. Long, lanky & thin muscles with good technique behind the punch is best for KO power & Kelly proves that.

I think it is more muscle type. Speed has its cost/advantage. The first time I heard a world class 100 yard sprinter talking about pacing himself during a race I thought he was joking. Yeah faster, so you can build the lactic acid faster. Steward said he likes to fight in bursts. That could be the reason.

Weight training that way and having a nice looking body does not help to win fights.

Calzaghe didnt look as strong as kessler or lacy, and the muscle 90s version of Tyson was a poor subsitute for the more naturally trained body he had in the 80s.

You do alot of reps of weights and end up looking good, or u can do lower amounts of reps with the most you can lift and be STRONG without looking like a greek god.
