Yeah, I could've said that, but didn't want to be called a "hater". JMM did enough to be considered the LW champ, so I won't rag about him being a career 126/130 pounder too much.
Still trying to glorify the win huh? C'mon, it was a good win, but JMM was a great, but beatable (bulking up 2 divisions high) comeback fight for PBF. He needed a "name" to beat to be on the headlines. Hopefully, he wont retire having paid the IRS.
I kind of agree to an extent. Skill did beat Marquez, but, it still kind of reminded me of me beating up on my little brother when we were kids.
The majority of fighters move up in weight to make more money. Floyd did it his whole career, and now that someone moves up to fight him, he's suddenly Don King or something. Hopkins moved up 2 weight classes to whip Tarver, Roy moved up 25 pounds to whip Ruiz, Holyfield weighed 20-30 pounds less than 90% of his opponents at heavyweight, Sweet Pea moved from lightweight to welterweight and became champion, so on and so forth............
If size doesn't matter, then why was floyd 2 pounds too heavy? He didn't need them, right? He could have come in at 135.
This wasn't about Marquez's ascent into the Welterweight division, this was about Floyd wanting easy money. This point would mean a lot more if it were Mayweather coming up to someone else's weight class like he has done in the past. What's the saying about a Good big guy always beating a good little guy? I think it was someone with a pretty good background with boxing.
So it's wrong for Marquez to move up to fight Floyd, but it wouldn't be wrong for Floyd to move up to fight someone else? That's what it sounds like you said. Floyd moved up his whole career to get bigger paydays by fighter bigger names, now that Floyd is the biggest name in boxing Marquez wanted to move up in weight to fight him and get his paper. Your point seems a little unfair to me. Am I the only one who sees this double standard?
Then he should have come in at 144. Plain and simple. If it didn't mean ****, then he should have done it. It's his ****ing job.
I don't think he cared enough to make any extra attempt to lose the weight. Just give JMM the cash and get it on.
