Saw a fight tonight in which one guy seems to be wearing gloves with a larger size than his opponent. The question is are the size of the gloves regulated or standarized? Also, I would think a smaller sized glove would favor an offensive fighter and a large sized glove favors a defensive fighter. Why do you guys think?

It's the make of the gloves that effect the size of them, both pairs would of weighed the same, Look at Mayweather vs Judah.

In terms of offensive and defensive, just as a side note : When Ricky Hatton started having to wear larger gloves he found that he couldn't sneak his body shots in under his opponents elbows the way he had done before with smaller gloves.

I always thought that the boxers agree upon the size before the fight happens. Anyway, I think you are right, smaller gloves would help the offensive fighter (more speed and power), while the bigger gloves would help the defensive fighter (easier to block shots).

    Yeah, pretty much.

Grant: Bigger so less punches go through

Reyes: More of a punchers glove

Does Khan still wear his funny looking Reebox gloves?

Famous track stars can order customized shoes and compete with it. Can a boxer order a customized glove that is within the regulated weight?

I assume so, aslong as it weighs what's specified, is made of the correct stuff and doesn't have a nail sticking out of it.

That's what was stranged to me. It was a red Everlast glove that was large and his opponent was I believe also an Everlast, but it was black and smaller. So different a model within the same brand is possible?

Everlast vs Maidana, Reebok vs McCloskey, Reyes vs Judah and Peterson

Sometimes with different colour gloves, the size looks deceptive, when infact they are the same

I used to like sparring with 16 Oz gloves because they were big and i could protect myself with more ease but it took a chunk out of my limited offense.

Some gloves feel completely different even if they are the same weight. One pair feels like it´s wrapped around my fist yet another is around my wrist.

It's not the size that counts; It's how you use them.

    So I'm told.
