Canelo has had stamina issues before this is not new. Difference was this time he fought someone who would not let him rest because they were scared.

Difference was natural size, reach, strength. Canelo's punches did not have the same effect on a prime LHW than they do at SMW.

still didn’t answer the question this is boxing fighters get hit and fighters get hurt Kovalev lost what 1 round in a 12 round fight? I don’t see any current 160 guy beating that version of Kovalev. It might actually prove the point even more Kovalev got hurt came back and still win and dominated the rest of the fight

Nope. Talent matters much much more.

Of course size matters a lot. There hasn’t been a heavyweight champion who wasn’t taller than the average in developed European societies in the past 30 years, and arguably the past 100 depending on whose statistics you use for height. I don’t understand people who deny this. Do they think that pretty much all of the greatest fighters of the past 30 years have just been in the top 5% of human height by chance?

And it’s only getting more and more like this. 2016 Olympic medalists:

    6’7 Tony Yoka
    6’6 Filip Hrgovic
    6’6 Joe Joyce
    6’9 Ivan Dychko

They’re taller than the average NBA player nowadays, they’re reaching near top volleyball player averages and if it keeps going like it has, only keep getting bigger.

Yet Usyk, a guy who made his name at 200, was able to move up to HW (a massive jump in weight) and beat one of the top two HW’s on the planet. He did it without corrupt judges or diva tactics. Usyk didn’t get to pick the judges, ring dimensions, demand max hydration clauses or any tricks many of the big names use routinely. He gave up height, reach and a lot of weight and was still able to win, in the opponent’s backyard. Like the Canelo fight, the scorecards didn’t mirror what happened in the ring but he walked away with the belts.

It’s interesting to see the people who predicted a Canelo KO against Bivol, and held Canelo in the top PFP position (because of his success at LH) now saying he was too small against a guy who is regarded as a small LH. Keep in mind that they both walk around at approximately the same weight (Canelo and Bivol) when they aren’t fighting. Does this mean Usyk is that much better than Canelo? I think he is but it’s good to know I have company. Wasn’t Canelo recently talking about fighting him?

If Bivol moves down to 168 and fights for all of Canelo’s belts, and beats him, does that mean Canelo is really a 160 fighter? Do we keep going down until he finally beats Bivol? Is 155, aka Canelloweight, his magic number? At least he’s safe there because I don’t think Bivol can make that weight, although I don’t think the ginger hulk can either.

It started way back in time really. Ali had both Size and skill for His time. And he was the next gen after the likes of Patterson, Johansson and Liston. Then you had guys like himself, Norton, Foreman and Holmes. Then another jump to more or less the modern standard of Size. Bowe, Lewis, Klitschko's etc. Skillwise they also became better. Its like an arms race with Size and skills. Fury is the biggest and most skilled of Them all.

Usyk is a different breed, he has also beaten every big name he faced in their own backyard. He is smaller, but more skilled, better conditioned and moves well. He also has the same reach as someone like Whyte and the Aj fight showed that he has enough power to keep his opponents honest.

People also act as if Usyk is a middle weight. He is 6‘3 in height and has a big build for a cruiser, he was always bigger then his opponents during his CW reign. He also didnt give up so much height to AJ who isnt all that big for a super HW to begin with.

Yep, Canelo is too small to fight a guy who walks around at the same weight as Canelo. Bivol was 182 and is not a large LH. Usyk beats guys who are 25-30lbs heavier routinely yet Canelo is PFP #1? I look forward to the new list coming out.

It’s funny, I’ve been looking through YouTube prediction videos and didn’t see any experts questioning Canelo’s size. Nearly every person picked Canelo to win, many said he’d win by KO. Suddenly he’s too small, barely a welterweight.

If you take a natural 175 pound fighter and put him in a race with a natural 160/168 pounder and put a bag of rocks on the smaller guys back. Who has the advantage?

Size matters in any kind of fighting. Just look at Mayweather vs Logan Paul. Yes, Mayweather was able to outbox him in the ring, but based on what we all saw what do you think would happen in a street fight? Logan Paul would smash him to pieces.

Of course they didn’t every time a boxer moves ups their power doesn’t have the same effect but he was still the stronger puncher. Reach and height have nothing to do with weight though. Canelo is like a pitbull he’s built wider.

Well Canelo looked smaller and according to Hearn weighed considerable less.
