you knew what to expect, skelton is a mauler, no skill. it was always going to bad. that said, it was slightly more entertaining than i thought it would be.
Well, everyone know that it would be a stinker. After Skelton vs. Williams 2 I promised myself that I would never watch these guys again... But I did watch this one :-(
Skelton wasn't outclassed at least though. He's a decent euro level fighter. Shame he didn't fight Maskaev or Ibragimov Instead though, Ibragimov hated Holy just ploding forward even though Holy didn't throw hardly anything. Chag still won even though the Judges had It too wide.
I had It close. Some rounds Chag was smothered and could only throw little single shots due to Skelton constantly leaning and throwing short Inside shots.
I thought they were about right, I had it 117-110 myself. Skelton is bound to get stick, he always did, but he was solid and brave and did what he could with his limited abilities. Hopefully he'll have made a decent wage off this fight, can get a handful more domestic/Euro fights on ITV and call it a day with money in the bank.
Poor fight. Skelton mauled and clinched, and did okay, but never had Chagaev in any real bother. Chagaev looked in poor condition; no way would he last more than five rounds against Wlad with that workrate. A poor champion and a poor challenger.
I dont know if its been mentioned on another thread, but did anyone notice how nasty Frank Maloney was to Skelton in the build up, saying how Skelton v Chagaev was like Havant & Waterlooville vs Liverpool? & saying how Skelton has no skills etc, he didnt half lay into the Bedford man & that suprised me, as the English usually to a man all stick by their own when one of their own are fighting for a world title. Even Bunce looked like he wanted to choke Maloney, & even John 'I may be biased' Rawling was getting digs in at Frank in his commentary. Speaking of Rawling, what has happened to him? Hes not a commenttor anymore, hes just a fanboy with a mic. Woodhall was nearly as bad, with all this "go on Matt" every time Skelton landed a couple of shots. Some impartiality please! Is that asking too much? In fairness to Woodhall though, he knew the fight was slipping but as Rawling was so carried away in the moment, I feel Woodhall was having to bite his lip & pretend he could understand where Rawling was coming from when he was going on about the fight being 'even' going into the last round! As for the fight, Skelton did well & I honestly think Chagaev took him lightly beforehand & was shocked by Skeltons workrate & willpower. For a guy who is 41 & only been a pro boxer for about 6 years & had no amateur background, it was a moral victory for the hairy shouldered Londoner.
he is from bedford dunks, a long way from london mate rawlings was comical, just spouting utter rubbish. Malonet can be a poisioned little ****er, usually when it is anything to do with warren
The fight itself was a total stinker. I thought Skelton did the best that he could, with the little skill that he has to win the fight. Chagaev looked far from great, but good enough to get the job done. The commentary as already stated was stupidly bias, and was a little annoying.
sounds funny. I didn't see the fight, sounds like the big man did better than expected. did he make the grunting noise every time he threw a punch?
wonder if frank maloneys bile towards skelton has anything to do with skelton splitting from eugene maloney?
