I've never seen him in action but Mike Weaver has to be in with a shout, his record looks a bit shakey - KOed 4 times in his first 12 fights. He won the WBA title from James Tillis in '81. How good was Micheal Dokes? I've never seen him either (KOed weaver in round 1 to take the WBA).
Not as long as Ruiz is still in the record-books. Of course, given that that talentless clubfighter CHEATED to "win" every fight he had after King plucked him from the scrap heap and got him rated, he shouldn't be.
It's especially annoying given the way he, King & Holyfield went to court to steal that belt from Lennox Lewis. That really was one of the most digusting shows of greed & political nonsense we have had in our sport. What made it worse was the way King managed to make a trilogy of fights out of it.
What about Michael Bentt? KTFO in his first pro fight, wins his next 10 against nobodies before beating Tommy Morrison... Loses to Herbie Hide in his first defence and retires. Admittedly he was in a coma for a few days.
hi everyone, new to this forum and i would like to add that its hard to pin a name on who is the worst heavywgt champ ever, i suppose mike dokes, trevor berbick and francesco damiani come to mind. however i would never class these guys as crap, it takes a lot of balls to get in that ring, they deserve respect, cheers !!!!
Ruiz was worse than ALL those guys. At least they fought WITHIN the rules, and didn't fake "low blows" to win their titles.:yep I would venture to say there has never been a less talented fighter to hold a world title belt than Ruiz - which is exactly WHY he HAD to CHEAT in order to do it! :nod
Not Greg, at least Tony Tubbs, and Tony Tucker are up there with him, even though all three were very talented. Also, Dokes and Bonecrusher Smith are there too.
