Skilled Counter-Puncher vs Skilled Pressure Fighter

It seems to me that a "skilled pressure fighter", would have to be a good counter puncher because the best way to press a fight is to draw leads and close distance by countering them.

Yep, Hopkins was great at shutting down younger, stronger aggressive fighters. His fights with Pavlik and Cloud were pure clinics.

I would say Toney vs Jirov is a great example of this type of matchup. Jirov brought the volume and pressure and Toney landed the hard/meaningful counter punchers that turned the fight.

Watching that fight once was enough for me. Huge amount of clinching with both fighters distributing each others rhythm. It was an exercise in patience and concentration. Hopkins landed 127 punches in a 12 round fight. .

I would rather watch Garcia vs Matthysse where Garcia spent large amounts on the back foot but landed hard clean counters. He showed an ability to box and skill sets I didn't think he even had. Most people thought that fight was going to be a wild fight.
