That could very well be true also, but many a time have I seen people ridicule his upright stance also.

I think Montoya is trying to incorporate more facets into him - whether or not it will improve him - I am not entirely sure.

We have also seen Pac get his ass whipped. While I agree with you some what, I just dont think that you gave good examples. Pavlik and Pac are both very skillful fighters. I think that a better example would be Margarito or some one like Stevie Johnston.

He definately needs to throw more body shots. He has incorporated more uppercuts since he was effective with it against Calzaghe.

He has been successful at what he has does, and he failed against Calzaghe, because he couldn't completely alter his game plan, when Calzaghe proved the better on the day on the outside. Another good indicator that Kessler has more facets than we have previously thought he had, was when he proved the stronger on the inside against Calzaghe, and few does that.

And you are basing this on what, if not his skill set?

Guys like Pac get plenty of praise. Guys like Pavlik don't as much because they lack top intangibles with a lack of skillset, Pavlik's totally overrated at the moment anyway, most consider him a real P4P force, so a few who disagree and point out his defensive and offensive skillset issue's bring him down 10 steps in regard?

Not really. Pavlik's not underrated, he's rated in the top 10 P4P, that's bad enough as it is.

His chin and how it will likely not stand up vs. a decent puncher who can deliver his power correctly to Pavlik's jaw via timing and accuracy. Plus his lack of defence and lack of another dimension to work with.

    And thats the point.

You are asking him to be something he is not. He is the 160lb champion and an undefeated fighter. That means that what he does do (walk fighters down with toughness, conditioning, will, power) he does so well that the most elite fighters in the world in his weight class are unable to do anything about.

If you just look at his track record, it puts this nonsense about his deficencies to rest... unless you want to start railing on his competition as a means to downplay what he has accomplished. This becomes sticky as we have to downplay the entire division which lacks a lot of objectivity to me. Then there is the fact that Calzaghe wants nothing to do with him which speaks volumes about his effectiveness in the ring.

Off to work, I will come back later.

You hit the #1 issue with guys around here so enamored with skill sets as if this were shadow boxing but effectiveness and competition are what matter most. A lot of people favor text book styles and a kind of amatuer style of boxing where my aim is to tap you more than you tap me. Its almost like asuming that a guy with a perfect textbook swing in baseball batting 270 is a better hitter than a guy with an ugly swing batting 350.

I'm not sure, some people go totally for effectiveness and what is down on paper. So much so that if you pick somebody less proven against a supposed top level you get interrogated endlessly and abused.
