Ok so my problem starts like 3 mins into my skipping. I get sharp pains in the stomach area. I dont know why but it makes me stop. Is it a stitch? Is it because im drinkig too much water (i dont have problems in other areas e.g. bag, shadowboxing.) what do you think?
I get the same thing every once in a while. Are you holding your breath maybe? Try being more relaxed and breathing slower.
Amy is correct, that's usually a breathing problem. I get it during bag work sometimes, calmly breathing for half a minute solves it.
I'm terrible at skipping, I've got a mental block or something. I've only just learnt how to skip one foot at a time, rather than jumping off both feat. After a while of skipping though, with each impact with the ground I swear I can feel my heart being wrenched around inside my rib-cage. Annoying, and somewhat painful.
lol after i learned how to skip from foot to foot and with good rythym i think its harder to go back to two feet at the same time
How high are you jumping? You should skip just high enough for the rope to pass under and be on the balls of your feet.
I typically jump very high and skip with a slow beat. When my coach starts screaming at us to go faster or do tricks and such, I jump even higher and raise my knees, since if I tried to go faster or do any sort of tricks I'd just trip myself up, and at least this way it doesnt look like I'm slacking. I'm competent or great at everything else - I feel like I need to say that because I'm probably giving the impression that I suck if I cant even skip properly. As I said, I've got a mental block or something.
I get that every once in awhile, like others already said it could be from lack of breathing properly, but for me I think it's more or less a pulled muscle, I sometimes get the samething when I'm lifting, which could mean one of three things, either your doing the workout with bad form, your working out a new muscle thats not used to the strain, and possibly the fact that your overworking the muscle itself. Im great at jumping rope, could do all the tricks and what not, and my breathing seems to be pretty controlled which allows me to jump rope for about 20 minutes straight when in training. I just feel that I might be over over working the abdominal region too much.
Most people who can't skip try to jump over the rope as they swing it. Try the other way around, jump then quickly swing the rope underneath your feet. It may sound silly but it worked for a lot of new people in my gym.
thats wat i do.. i get a massive clock and lean it against sumthing infront of me and do 10 seconds normal, 10 seconds running (pretty hard) and then 10 seconds double ups and over and over ect... realy helps with stamina
I'll give it a go. I know its something I have to deal with. Always annoys me though, I'd rather do bag work, or run, or just about anything else. Ugh.
I am so terribly **** at skipping got a speed rope the other day and im pathetic my co-ordination is so bad i get confused which way the ropes coming round and i keep doing double jumps which i knw is not good at all any advice? Also since livin out this year for my first year of uni ive also gained a good inch of blubber i try nt to eat too much and go runnin 3 times a week nd play tennis a couple of hours at a time but the flab dnt budge very easily ive lost 1 stone but that elusive inch does not seem to be decreasing very fast!
Might be something to do with the way you're holding the rope as well. In order to keep the rope moving at a brisk pace, my hands don't actually move very much, but there's a good amount of tension in the rope. A good way of making this happen I found is to hold the rope pretty wide, and focus on making tight little circles with your hands.
