When you start your training session, do you start with jumping rope or do you skip at the end of your work out. I used to do it as one of my first exercises but now I do it at the end. It's a little better for me to skip after all my muscles are warmed up. At the beggining of a session my legs are rather stiff and it takes good 3-4 minutes to gen my legs going or sometimes whole 15 minutes are painfull. It works much better for me to start with shadow boxing and all other floor exercises and then finish with jumping rope.

How do you usually do it?

That's what I use skipping for, warming up. I start with very light "shadowboxing" though, to get my limbs loose a little.

Usually I like to skip first. Sometimes I'll do rounds, where I'll cycle through different exercises for a round each, in that case, the jump rope would make several appearances.

you can skip at the end to help reduce lactic acid as a warm down, skip at the begining but do sprints you will warm up in no time doing that.

I stretch for a few minutes then normally do three 'three' minute rounds on the ropes. Gets you nice and warmed up for bag work.

This was my order when I was active (this was at gym, not home).

    - Basic body stretches to warm-up
    - Shadow-Boxing (used for technique)
    - Gym-Work (Pads, Bag-Work, Sparring)
    - Floor-work OR strength-Training
    - Jump-Rope as a cool-down
    - Wind-Down and relax.

I ran hill sprints on my own time in the mornings before work.

The serious boxers at my gym usually skip at the start of their session.

I start with a very relaxed pace of skipping rope for one round, then light shadow boxing to loosen up a bit, followed by some more intense rounds of skipping rope.

Personally I think skipping is a waste of time other than maybe for a warm up. Calzaghe doesn't skip and it hasn't done him any harm. The trouble with boxing is that many training routines are rooted in the past and no one questions their effectiveness

It's a warming up exercise, but it aids coordination in general which is very important.

enzo doesnt like for calzaghe to skip, he thinks that it is useless, but joe calzaghe skips on his own time.
