Barrett rocked Valuev early in their fight. He took it better than Fields but he was shaken a bit. The right guy took take Valuev out.:smoke:smoke

I think the legs have some influence on the ability to absorb a shot. Thick, solid legged fighters can usually take it better. Quick example from the 80's Hearns - tooth picks for legs. Hagler - think and strong wickets. Of course, genetics and one's wiring (neurology) play a part. It's a fact that Hagler 's skull was detemined by a physician to be nearly twice as thick at the temples than the average human.

3 of the top chins today in Andrade, Margarito, and Baldomir have huge heads. Their heads seem to be Neantrathal type skulls. You can't ignore that fact.

Gary Mason had a bloody big noggin, like a damn pumpkin up there, and he was never down as a pro.

Tottally agree, thats why boxers do so much skipping.

Its also known that polenesian races like New-Zealenders, Samoans etc have thicker skulls because of their diet, compared to Europeans or Americans whos diet means less calcium build on the bones.

    Defo its an interesting debate.

Judah, Berto, Dawson, RJJ, etc seem to have small heads in proportion to their bodies.

Wladimir has a big head, yet his chin sucks. Vitali looks to have a smaller head, and his chin is granite. Go figure.

You got a link for that?

I'd love to have some info on it as diet is currently an obsession of mine.

It has a lot more to do with cochlear placement than anything. The ear controls balance.

I dont think it has anything to do with skull size.

I believe it is a combination of brain fluid casing, having a short or long neck, and most importantly a fighters will to win.

Wayne McCullough is an excellent example of a fighter with not a large head, a skinny neck, but he can take a punch like no other. He defys both points of having a short neck or a large head.

I am sure there are certain physiological aspects to being able to take a punch, there have to be, but I believe the single most overriding factor is a fighters mental toughness and will to win.

Didn't Wayne develop some sort of cyst in his brain?

If diet is an obsession then get hold of this book off the net.

Spartan Health Regime by Anthony Bova.

That is were I got that polinesian bit from.

If your looking for optimal weight, fitness and strength thsi book will give you it.

I am speaking from the experience of doing it.
